Hotel Esmeralda is a little gem tucked away in Atlixco. We stayed for a family wedding but would happily have stayed for longer. There was a lovely clean, heated pool with relaxed seating and a very pleasant outdoor area for dinner and breakfast. The food was authentic Mexican and delicious and the service was attentive without being obtrusive. We would highly recommend a stay here.

On Sundays there is a flower market in the main square and on Saturdays you must go to the market to see the colors and splendor of regional agriculture. Atlixco is a colorful place, beautiful to visit any time of year. Sundays are the best for markets. The food is amazing if you step into the Mercados that can be found anywhere. Jugeria la Nueva has the best smoothies! Like in any place, be careful where you go and you should not have any problems with pit pockets.
