Hotel San Julio, hotel in Celestún

Hotel San Julio offers beachfront accommodation in the heart of Celestún and features free WiFi in common areas. The rooms come with a TV. You will find a 24-hour front desk at the property.

The host is very friendly, the room is just fine, there is also a fridge in your room. The beach is very close. Basically it is in your “garden”. All in all we enjoyed our stay a lot.

Cabañas Cinco Elementos, hotel in Celestún

Featuring a garden and free WiFi, Cabañas Cinco Elementos is located in Celestún, 300 metres from Celestun Beach and 14 km from Parque Natural Rio Celestun.

Reonaldo was such an amazing host! He was so helpful and accommodating, making sure that we had everything that we needed. He even drove us to the bus station on our last day when we were having issues getting a taxi and were close to missing our bus. The Cabaña was comfortable and clean. We had use of a fridge and facilities in the shared kitchen/bar. The beach was just across the road and was totally deserted - we felt like we were the only ones there! The Cabañas are a little bit of out the main town, but we had free use of bikes to get around. Celestún is such a beautiful and friendly little town. Definitely our favourite place during our trip. Make sure that you go on the mangroves boat tour - Alex was a wonderful guide!

Hotel Manglares, hotel in Celestún

Situated in Celestún, within a few steps of Celestun Beach and 14 km of Parque Natural Rio Celestun, Hotel Manglares features accommodation with a bar and free WiFi throughout the property as well as...

We got great care and service from Roberto and his crew from the moment we arrived. Mostly Spanish is spoken aside from Roberto. Everybody was helpful and friendly. The cabana is more like a well done studio apartment. Very spacious and clean. The sheets were smooth and good quality (hard to find, even at a 5 star place in Mexico)! The cleaner came 4 of 5 days, and we left around 50 pesos ($3.00 USD) a day for her. Plan to bring smaller bills to tip. She left more coffee, towels, took out garbage (because remember, no toilet paper goes into the toilet), and cleaned the floors etc... Of the four cabanas facing the sea, this is the only one that is restored post hurricanes. The others appear to be uninhabitable. It did appear as though we were the only guests staying, on the rather large property. Luckily there was an attendant/front desk person there 10 hours a day. Apparently there are rooms available in the three story building that also faces the ocean. Since the village is known to be safe, I wasn't scared, and felt quiet comfortable. There is a working air conditioning unit which was helpful when it was too smokey to leave the windows open. The beach is gorgeous, there is a palapa for shade and a couple of chaise loungers. Next door is The Posedian Restaurant and pool (didn't seem to be in working order) for your use as well. It's a 5-7 minutes walk south to the town's public beach where there are vendors selling clothes and souvenirs and many restaurants. It's also an easy walk to the town square to go to the grocery etc... If needed you can always get a mototaxi for a ride as well. Our party of five agreed, that this is one of the nicest places in town (we saw three others). Here's to the lovely place Roberto has made for guests coming to enjoy Celestun for a few days!

I'm a birder, so experiencing the boat trip to see the Amerian Flamingos was unforgettable for me (and all the other birds of the Celestun area!!!) Also, Celestun faces west across the Gulf of Mexico, so the sunsets are beautiful. The town is an amazing cultural experience too. The people are wonderful. The LONG stretch of beach is quiet and clean. Motor taxis are everywhere if you don't have a car. See David at the coffee shop Casa Bacab for remarkable guided birding.

Celestun is not a pretty town, but its proximity to the mangroves and flamingos makes it special. (It's a Unesco site.) The beachside restaurants offer great seafood (coconut shrimp! ceviche!) and the prices are pretty good. Since they close down at nightfall, there are some good options in town around the main square. We didn't do a tour of the mangroves, since we had done that a few years ago, but that and seeing the flamingos are very popular activities. The beach is popular with lots of shells along the shore, and a lovely sandy bottom when you're in the water. We aren't big 'beach people' but we really enjoyed our stay and will come back again, I'm sure. We took a bus from Merida (very inexpensive at 68 pesos each way per person) -- lots of stops along the way, but the other alternatives are a rental car or a tour. This worked for us!

For birdwatching: Guardians de Los Manglares de Dzinintun.

For birdwatching: Guardians de Los Manglares de Dzinintun. We did the kayak tour and our guide Zac really enhanced our experience. When we spent the rest of the day on the beach, we could identify almost every bird we saw. Get a big meal at one of the beachside restaurants around 3ish (my favorite was La Palapa), and then a small meal of tacos or tortas in the town square around 8. It's important to know that the beaches are full of shells. A pro for some travelers and a con for others.

    This place is paradise .

This place is paradise . It’s under developed yes but that’s part of its charm. Wish there were a bit more facilities and better hotels around but at the same time nothing to fancy or big developments because it’s a conservation area so it really should be cared for and treated properly and with respect. The nature there is outstanding . More of the right eco friendly investment in the area would make it a superb destination. The flamingos and sunset are like nothing else I have seen before.

Celestun is a real Mexican town with mercado and cute main plaza ...some very nice restaurants on the sand at beach side, rather like being at a party! .EXCELLENT SEAFOOD ..There are pockets of rather dire poverty on the outskirts of town on the way to the Flamingo Preserve ...which you should do ....you can pay a moto taxi 100 pesos to take you out there, its a Gulf beach so that means little waves , so don't expect crashing surf! also fishing boats anchor in the same area as swimmers ,but no bother...great shelling and just strolling beach...water is not Caribbean crystal clear , but pleasant enough.... great safe beach for kids ...this what Acapulco must have been like a very long time ago!

The cabana space felt like a five star hotel, very well equipped, clean, very comfortable bed, keurig coffee maker that made excellent coffee, good restaurant (Poseidon) next door, gorgeous views, close walk to town-- the town itself is really lacking in good restaurants, shopping and decentcoffee options. For a town that abuts a world-acknowledged biosphere preserve, there is more trash than I've seen anywhere in the world-- the river in the fishing village that opens up to the biosphere lagoon is filled with trash.

Celestun seems to be at a crossroads of: dusty sleepy fishing village vs a proper Mexican tourist town (with all the problems that brings) with emphasis on the former) Reynaldo knows this and is positioning his enterprise on this transition. He is a very attentive host to his guests and makes sure you feel looked after. Celestun in April can be brutally hot so more shade is a must for this wonderful paradise. We had a wonderful 3 nights here and we give this a total recommendation.

A lovely place to stay, right on the beach about 1km out of Celestun. A lovely 25min walk along the beach into the town. Sandra was lovely, very helpful with local info and any questions we had. Large room, everything v clean, with very comfy beds, balcony, terrace with pool, and beach area. V quiet & relaxing, a great place to stay if you are visiting Celestun, which is a lovey puebla to visit. The boat trip around the mangroves is a must.

Immaculately clean beachfront property in a central location of Celestun. The suite was tastefully decorated and the finishing details in the room were very well done, which is something that is often overlooked in Mexico. The beach area is very well kept and has palapas and lounge chairs free for guests to use. We highly recommend this place!

Our host Wanda really made our entire trip Celestun. From the moment we arrived she was friendly and helpful — offering great tips and insights on how to make the most of our short time there. It was clear throughout our stay that our comfort and enjoyment was her #1 priority. I’d definitely stay here again if/when I return.

A friendly place with a nice and calm location in Celestún a few blocks from the beach and the bus terminal. Very good breakfast options. Most people go to Celestún to see the thousands of pink flamingos, and we agree, that is the USP.
