You need to rent a car in order to travel around. I have had a base stay in Merida. Merida is general overpriced and that doesnt mean the quality will follow for the value of the money. Merida itself is not interesting at all.

We really liked the city.
We really liked the city. You need to understand the bus situation and we tried, bought bus passes, tried using them but they were not coded the way our phone was displaying so we ended up using taxi service for all of our visitations to museums, central, restaurants, etc. It wasn't expensive but much more than the simple bus or combi travel would have been. Merida has lots to offer, especially with tours outside of the city, a bus trip to the beach in Progresso for 25 pesos each way, very cheap, cenotes, pyramids, on and on!

Merida is a big, historic, busy city surrounded by Mayan ruins, historic haciendas and beautiful cenotes. The Merida restaurant scene has everything from chef owned culinary gems to family run taco shops. There are many excellent tour guides available for in-depth exploration of the city and surroundings or one can do so on their own using public transportation or with a rental car.
The free breakfast was wonderful. The pool was lovely on a hot afternoon. The wifi worked well. The bed was comfortable. The shower was great - good water pressure and hot water that lasted - a first for me on the trip throughout Mexico! The free shuttle to the airport was appreciated and went well. Hosts responded to questions and concerns promptly via WhatApp. Hosts were wonderful. Access to free coffee, tea, water etc throughout day. Multiple lovely common and garden areas to relax or work all with Wifi. Good AC. Quiet for sleep.
The rooms are big and the balcony too. The roof terrace bar just opened when I arrived and the view is amazing, on top of that you are allowed to smoke there, which is a huge plus in a country like Mexico where smokers are usually banned even from open-air spaces. The Star Medica hospital is just across the street, which was the reason for my visit to this area. And a nice mall is also very close, as well as a convenience store just next to the hotel. Internet was great! So everything you need for remote work or just in general.
Excellent place. It is actually a B & B, but with 4 star rooms. The shower was one of the best out of 25 hotels we've stayed in Mexico. Beds were good and the place was very clean. Although in the center of town, it is really quite. We loved the patio, and as it also had super internet we spent a lot of time there to just relax and catch up on our online work. Leo and his lovely wife are great hosts.
The location is right in downtown, but it was easy to park our car in front of the hotel.
The room was absolutely beautiful, overlooking the nice swimming pool area. The staff was super helpful and always very friendly, very quiet hotel, beautiful building - the best place we stayed for a while!
We only planned to stay 1 night in Merida, but stayed a couple more to enjoy the peace and quiet after a month of travelling through Mexico.
Thanks again to the staff for making us feel right at home!
Kind regards,
Dax & Chloë
Not the best location but not the worst. 8 to 10 minute walk to Central.
Free water in the lobby to fill your water bottle. This is so important and I don't know why more places in Mexico don't do it it is so incredibly hot.
A couple of the staff members were nice.
The most incredibly comfortable bed I've slept in in many months. Along with fantastic pillows and towels. The bed is the only reason I stayed multiple nights.
It was one of the cheapest and best hostel in Mexico so far. The price is great. Really basic but everything was clean, the location is great and the breakfast was really really good. Good filter coffee. The restaurant was great as well. Great wifi. The view from the patio at the restaurant is beautiful. Everyone was nice and welcoming. Would stay there again.
Great valuGood value!
The rooms are modern including very good showers (Best we had during our trip in Mexico) and quiet AC. Staff was young and friendly. Breakfast was at the café next door, which was very good. The Italian on the other side was exceptional as well.
Location is in walking distance of the city centre. (15 minutes).
This hotel is amazing. Beautiful calming decor. Convenient location close to shops and restaurants. Lovely large room with excellent shower. Great swimming pool area. Efficient wifi. Best coffee we've experienced in Mexico on request. Numerous TV chanels (in English!). And incredibly helpful friendly staff.
Just book it!
I had the pleasure of staying at a remarkable hotel in Merida, Mexico, and I must say that the experience was nothing short of exceptional. The property itself was truly incredible - from the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by a captivating blend of exquisite decoration and an ambiance that exuded both luxury and comfort
Loved this place - one of our favourite in Mexico so far. Beautiful courtyard and pool as you come in, nice staff, and clean comfortable rooms. Ideal location too on a really quiet part of town just north of all the main sights. Lots of good places to eat and drink nearby. Amazing value for money overall and highly recommend.
Casa Garza is one of my favorite hostels in Mexico so far!
- Comfortable beds
- The kitchen is super nice and clean
- Good breakfast
- Really nice staff
- Good location, only 5 minutes from the ADO bus station and the main square
- There is a pet turtle
Overall the place feels so homy and cosy
This hotel is just splendid. The beautiful artistic touches, the exceptional staff (Edgar, Jorge and Beto, who I interacted with frequently) who were so kind, helpful and professional, and ideal location, made my stay in Merida a joy. I definitely recommend and I will return.
Great location close, very nice new rooms with nice view. The best part was the gym and the swimming pool on the roof. We enjoyed our stay so much that we stayed in Merida for 5 nights - this was our longest stay in Mexico. Would come back to this hotel.
Room was comfortable but could’ve used more pillows, 1 pillow per person is not enough with a hard bed. WiFi was fantastic and very reliable, some of the best WiFi during my stay in Mexico. Good aircon. Didn’t use kitchen in room but it looked decent.
This hotel is unique. Brilliantly taken care of, the owner has kept the old historical touch that makes it different. The staff is well trained the breakfast is delicious, and the service is top. I would come back for sure if I visit again Merida!
