This is one of my favourite places in Penang. There are many interesting sights to see, and the local cuisine is amazing. I will definitely visit again. People in Penang are very helpful and friendly. The services rendered by some of the shops in Penang were awesome.

Charming city with a long history.
Charming city with a long history. The local food is amazing! Try the hawker stalls, local nyonya food/ restaurants. But if you want something fancier like modern western food, there are many new restaurants opened by the younger generation. Lots of coffee cafes operated by young people and they are great! It is easy to get around Penang in a Grab, and cheap too. Spend 1/2 day in Penang Hill - take the train up. Its only 4.5 min over a 2 km steep climb. The visit is worth it.

Full of old-world Asian charm.
The street food was amazing.
If you like pristine places, I would recommend Singapore. We preferred Penang Island to Singapore as there weren't as many cameras and rules mind you.

The two large historic mansions - Cheong Fatt Tze and the
Pinang Peranakan Mansion - are fabulous, especially the former, also known as the Blue Mansion. Plenty of information about the history of Penang as well as some really beautiful artefacts to look at. The Penang War Museum was also well worth the excursion - it's huge and also full of historical information about the various conflicts that have affected the area, but particularly the occupation by the Japanese in the second world war, all set within the amazing fortifications built by the British. The old town of Penang is interesting to wander around - but beware, it was hot season and there is very little shade to be found. I really wish I'd had an umbrella as well as my hat and long trousers and long sleeves. There is a really strong emphasis on street food here and it is of varying quality. A long queue doesn not necessarily indicate this is a good restaurant - it just means that it's been featured by someone online. So look at the food yourself and judge your own instincts if you think something looks worth trying. Auntie Gaek Leen's restaurant was the most interesting we tried - really lovely food.

surprise that Georgetown is on the list of UNESCO sites ... car traffic is high even in the smallest streets in the very center ... many small houses are rundown and new highrise buildings have been constructed even in the town center

Get up the hill on foot to see monkeys.
Get up the hill on foot to see monkeys. Anything else is a waste of money. Yet another british colonial style city. Just wonder around for cafes and get to your next destination. Know that for the ferry they strictly enforce an illegitimate NO CASH policy. After discussing 20 min I was given a useless local RFID transport card for 22 myr instead of the 4 myr needed for the one way ride. Do yourself a favour and get there with a Grab by the bridge to avoid this very low level treatment and queues to board the ferry among plentiful indian families.
The staff team were incredibly attentive and friendly. The accommodation (3-bed house over the road from the main hotel) was amazing and incredibly spacious. It has large and comfortable bedrooms with A/C in all. A large living space with excellent kitchen facilities. Breakfast was okay. The hotel restaurant serves really delicious Italian food and is well worth a visit to mix up your dining experience. Central location is excellent for exploring everything George Town has to offer.
We have been traveling around Malaysia for 2 weeks, and this was the best hotel of all. The staff is friendly and helpful. They gave us a lot of information about the city, places to visit, and even a list of vegetarian restaurants :)
The place is amazing. Restored old Chinese house from 1800, the atmosphere is relaxed with beautiful decoration. You have everything you need in your room plus, the bed is super comfy.
We will come back for sure!
Location is superb, short walking distance to Sweettenham Pier Cruise Terminal and many historical sites are within walking distance. The room is quite spacious, clean, nice interior and good view from the bed.(harbour view).Staff friendly. Breakfast was good. Royale Chulan Penang Hotel is at the heart of UNESCO Heritage Site in George Town, Penang, Malaysia.
If we came back to George Town, we would stay here again. Even if we didn't see any staff, the communication was quick and easy and they kindly answered all my questions. Around the hotel there are many restaurants and all the sightseeings are very close and you can reach them walking. It was really useful the washingmachine and the line to hand our clothes.
Everything. It was great. Very spacious, very comfortable. A lot of amenities at the property. AMAZING breakfast buffet and really good food options at the whole hotel. A bit on the more expensive side of George Town but worth it.
The free canapés and cocktails from 6-7pm was also great. All in all this was an amazing hotel, great staff and amazing venue.
Such a pretty cozy accommodation with chilly quiet vibes. The interior was nice including pretty antique displays, fish tanks, and wall arts. Location is good too. It is easy to walk around the points of interest in George Town. Since the hotel is off the main street, the neighborhoods was pretty silent and easy to get sleep despite the New Year's Eve.
This is an exceptional hotel to stay in, it has character, fantastic location & very helpful staff. We lovely the old furniture & the room we stayed in had a great dress view & was massive. It's great valu for money & we should of stayed there longer & not gone & stayed in George Town as it was much better here.
I got good deal coz booked the hotel via Booking.com so no big complain. However if I pay walk-in rate I will consider again.
Stay 1 night here.
There is a Malay Thai restaurant in front of the hotel (bonus no need to drive 👍🏻)
Plenty of car park space.
Overall, i paid less than RM50 for family deluxe 👑
Traditional hotel with comfortable rooms. Quiet too even though it’s close to the hustle and bustle of old George Town. Walked everywhere from here, the best food market just in front of the hotel and so cheap. Staff excellent, professional and very helpful. Always smiling!
Hotel was spotlessly clean, rooms were comfortable
Hotel is in a great location for exploring George Town
The staff were extremely helpful too and even accommodated our early check in request without fuss
Staff in the cafe / bar were also very friendly and pleasant
Cheah, who runs the hotel, is very friendly and helpful. She booked our ferry to Langkawi when we didn't manage to do so on our phone, and washed our clothes for us.
