Jose was an amazing host, very genuine and helpful. The cleaning lady was also extremely friendly and helpful with anything you needed. The rooms were large with a big bathroom and the bed was large and very comfortable. Note: on the island on frequent occasions water does go off, however, each bathroom does have a full tub of water for a shower which was filled everyday which we appreciated. The kitchen was very well equipped and there was fresh coffee every morning which Jose made. The communal area was large and the views on the 2nd floor over concepcion volcano was amazing especially at sunset. Jose made you feel very comfortable and felt like it was your home.

It’s a bit aside from the port city Moyogalpa, so it’s very calm and almost no cars and people here, but still easy to reach by foot from the Centre (15 min walk). It has breakfast included and it’s home cooked food by the family. My room was very spacious, with 1 double and 1 single bed. They had outlets outside and inside, so i could work online here. Ask for both WiFi passwords! The host family was very nice and always tried to help, like when I needed a dentist they found a number. They don’t speak English (as most locals here) but with my broken Spanish and google translate we always understood each other. You can also ask them about the laundry option. Thanks for hosting me!

My bank applies unreasonable charges to ATM withdrawals so I specifically choose hostels that accept card payments. Contrary to all HTV online profiles (including this one), they would only take cash and I really didn't want to spend my limited time in Ometepe writing to Booking to get a refund on account of false advertising. However, that means that I also have to review this hostel as though I paid 12 and not 9 USD per night because that is how much I ended up spending. For that money, I could've gotten a place with a pool, bar and other amenities, none of which are available at HTV. Still, on its own merit, the hostel was nice, clean, comfortable, with decent kitchen, good wi-fi (though, sadly, not reaching the garden that would be perfect for remote work), and unlimited filtered water supply. The dorms are excessively hot but otherwise OK.
