Breakfast was great and so was the staff. Everyone was so friendly and nice. Made you feel right at home. The location is a bit far from town but its worth it if you're looking to be immersed in nature. The lodge offers lots of tours and activities.
Situated 20 km from Alta’s town centre, along the Alta River, is this special igloo hotel.

Great experience staying in the ice hotel. We stayed in the basic ice rooms since they were much cheaper and you can visit the carved rooms before 8pm. Food was lovely in the Laavu restaurant and breakfast was also very nice. Sleeping bags for the ice hotel were cosy and warm which made for a comfortable sleep.

Lovely cute place which is not too commercial.
Lovely cute place which is not too commercial. Great place to do a northern light run, Go for a smaller tour size of 7-8 ppl instead of 50 sized. First its very safe even if you are going solo and also you have a more personal discussion with the group and also much more personalized attention to see the stars and the northern lights.

I came for the museums and some quiet relaxation, and got plenty of that! Lovely town with good food and lovely people. The weather in June was grand... nice during the day, cooler at night. A fan was all I needed to be cool enough to sleep. The local taxi company got me around town with ease, though their is a bus I never tried out. I sadly do not speak any Norwegian, and I was able to get around with ease.

Alta is a town that is difficult to reach in winter, so it is good to make reservations as late as possible to get a refund without penalty. Accommodation owners and tour operators will take your money and not refund you even if you prove that you didn't arrive in Alta due to weather (cancelled planes or planes that were unable to land).

Be sure to p pick the right time of year.
Be sure to p pick the right time of year. The summer season is very short and several museums and other places close at the end of August. September we found to be relatively fine as well as October. We found that some places were closed whether this was because of the end of season or still related to Covid is/was uncertain.
Alta Museum and its rock drawings and other Sami history is very interesting and informative. The Northern Lights (Nordlys) Cathedral stands dominant in the centre of town and well worth a visit. Obviously at this particular tie of year the Northern Lights are always a possibility.

There are many grocery shops some of which are very large.
There are many grocery shops some of which are very large. We could find gluten free food
The views of the mountains and bay are very nice when it’s sunny
The rock carvings museum is definitely a place to visit
I recommend the Vanvitting Grill for the excellent raindeer burger with strawberry sauce
Johnny was amazing! He thought of every little thing to make us enjoy our stay. The cabin was beautiful, and we saw a spectacular Northern lights show. The sleigh ride was perfect....I love the Norweigen Fjord horse...Timion. We were able to get close and pet him. Everything about the stay was exceptional, hot tub, homemade breakfast, nature hikes...absolutely competes with the Grande Hotel, Oslo. Flatmoen Natur has better service by far! Can't wait to come back!
We loved the ice hotel carvings.. It was so unique and beautiful. Definitely worth upgrading to a suite if possible. The breakfast was delicious as well. Several downsides of the hotel include- cost for extra things such as using the hot tub or sauna, also don't recommend the bus driving northern lights tour [very poor forecast and no option to change activities, cancel or try again another day]. We drove around for 2 hours and the guide barely spoke to us.
The facility was very well managed in the aspects the host considered essential to a camp styled accommodation. Although many things were not provided, like in-cabin bathroom/toilet; or provided with extra cost like towels, bedsheets and duvet linen, pillow cases etc, customers should understand this is by its nature as a camping facility, not a hotel. With this in mind, I was fully satisfied of my stay there for 2 nights. Good job.
Bed was very big and comfy, bathroom was very clean. The breakfast was great, as always when staying at a Scandic hotel. They had lotd of options, including gluten free and vegetarian, vegan and raw vegan. Fresh products, there were lots of tables so even when most people came to eat, you didn't feel crowded. We had to check out very early in the morning, so they were kind to provide a breakfast bag (you have to ask the night before).
We had an all around fantastic stay. Staff was really nice and proactive to make you feel at home.
The included breakfast and the meals we ordered were delicious.
Certainly a fantastic experience if you're looking for something other than the usual hotel room.
And as luck has had it the weather allowed us to see a beautiful aurora right there and then.
The location, surrounded by nature (but easy-to-drive road from Alta) was very scenic. The wi-fi worked well, The room had character. THere is convenient food available for many hours starting in the late afternoon. This was a buffet of three casseroles (we liked all three, so that was good), with good bread. Beer etc. available. Silent at night.
Honestly, it was my first time to Alta and 30 seconds into my stay the staff made me feel welcome. The breakfast was generous, the hotel was clean, quiet, and additional information was very available. I could not have felt more at home. Walking around the town was grand, and taxis were easy to call & get to take you all over.

Beautiful modern lodge a short ride outside of Alta with breathtaking mountain views. Outdoor warm jacuzzi and indoor sauna was very enjoyable. Kitchen well equipped and rooms were clean and well furnished with towels and bedding. Communication with the host was great - would love to be back soon.
Good location close but outside Alta. Nice cabin. Very friendly and helpful staff member. He did his best to allow for the heating of my car during the night (-20 C). The are only a few electricity plugs on the camp side and wire extension was necessary to reach these due to the snow.
The hotel is next to the arctic church and in front of the bus station. The room was really spacious and with a wonderful view to the church and the mountains. The breakfast was super nice and the staff was kind and helpful. It was a quiet and comfortable stay.
Incredible view and fantastic location. We really loved the drive to and from the house. Very cozy place, and nice setup. Overall great spot, we just wish we could have spent more time in Alta. Very accommodating and responsive owner.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel was beautiful and warm. We had everything we needed and more! Loved the fact that staff would come into the dining rooms, lounge to alert of any northern lights activity!
The best hotel on a our trip to Finland and Norway. Large room overlooking the sea, a rich breakfast, wonderful and caring ovner. Freee car parking. Silence.
Friendly staff, great service, delicious food, lovely accommodation and fantastic location! Loved being able to snowboard straight to and from the hotel.
