We enjoyed our stay at Heartland Hotel. The room was very clean and warm and the bed comfy. They also have a restaurant attached for guests use.
The receptionist was lovely and thoughtful. She had automatically changed the room we had initially booked when she saw that I required a stick to walk. (Apparently the initial room did not have parking outside it.) New room had parking outside the room and lovely farmland views.
We are happy to recommend this hotel.

It was sunny. The bed was SO comfortable. It was super-clean and we were able to do our laundry there. Well done, Haast River ! Wish we could have stayed longer.

We didn't have the breakfast option. It was enjoyable staying but we left early because of the dire weather forecast. The owner was very understanding.
Some really good coastal walks set up by DOC. Some great board walks and coastal walks of various lengths. Peaceful area with most tourists not taking advantage of the walks and stopping in car parks for a quick look only. Warning: don't go off road near beachs. We towed someone out of the sand!

Haast is a definite stop and you must visit Jackson's Bay. Although itis a long way from Haast its a lovely drive and an interesting place when you get there. Make sure you take insect repellant as it is a MUST.
We ate at the hotel restaurant. Good selection of mains.
Lots of walks.

Haast requires some commitment to not just blast through to Wanaka or the glaciers. The visitors centre and the boardwalk (on way to Jackson Bay) are both worth an hour of your time. Plus all the points on the map just before and after Knights Point, Ship creek walks x2, waterfalls. An overnight stay is recommended to have two brilliant travel days.
Take snacks and a flask though, it's remote and you may not find something open when you are hungry. And sandfly repellent, and long clothes!

We only stayed in Haast for 2 nights as a stopover between Queenstown and Franz Josef. Although there is not a lot to do apart from various walks and some fishing we did do a day trip down to Jackson Bay. A lovely little village on the edge of the ocean and they have a great seafood restaurant.

Jackson's Bay was probably beautiful in the sun, it was pouring down whilst we were there!! There is nothing to see at Haast- The beach isOK but there are the awful black bitingfies in their droves, other than that it is just a place to break a journey if necessary.

Haast is a nice remote location close to the seashore and national park. When travelling there are the facilities that you would need, but limited in choices. There is a Pub and Cafe where you can eat, but beware of their hours of operation. Wifi and cell service seeks to be restrictive in the region should you be needing it.
Very large, spacious set up. While we didn't have 3 in our party it would work well for 3 as there was sleeping room for 3. The host was very accommodating on our arrival time, which was quite late. She also made sure there was fresh milk in the frig for morning coffee which was very thoughtful and much appreciated! It was very quite, and it is quite remote. We arrived as it started to rain sheets of rain, which made it impossible to travel to Jackson Bay the next day due to a tree down and flooded roads.
Motel style room in a hotel complex, very clean and comfortable, very powerful shower- excellent!! Hotel Restaurant food was delicious, we had lunch, dinner and breakfast- all meals were very generous portions, lots of choice for breakfast, Continental and cooked food on offer. Petrol station very close by and Haast Visitor centre which was a lovely asset to the area.
Excellent location. We arrived very late and the hotel manager was kind enough to leave the lights on for us and the key was in the door.
Honestly the best place to stay. Excellent facilities and so clean and tidy. Highly recommend and will always use Bay Road Motel as my base when visiting Haast. Thank you to management.
Very very clean and room had all we needed for a one night stay. I thoroughly appreciated the time that Suzy, the hotel owner, took to take about Haast and our drive the next day to Queenstown. So helpful and friendly. The room was exactly what we needed and would recommend. Cafe next door was great.
It was a sweet old style motel where you park at the door. Beds were comfy, the room was clean.Dinner at the restaurant was fabulous with very generous meals,
the staff we had contact with were all lovely.
It was a great stop to break up our trip to Queenstown from Hokitika
Was upgraded to a queen bedroom by pleasant staff at this backpackers and motel. The bed was comfortable for a quiet night's stay. Quirky internal garden common area. Grocery takeaway behind the facilities. Good parking available.
Super clean, amazing shower pressure! Room was so clean and comfortable, staff was very friendly, cute new years eve bbq , free parking, petrol station nearby, beach nearby, grocery store nearby. Lovely stay!
Everything. It was so peaceful and quiet. There’s a beautiful room where it’s so easy to loose track of time relaxing in there surrounded by plants. Best backpackers I’ve ever stayed at.
The backdrop of the hotel was 1st class. Having the pub walking distance was perfect after a long drive. Perfect find in a beautiful part of the country
