Mangonui is a pleasant small place with a beautiful waterfront. Considering its size it has a good range of eating places as well as a supermarket. The heritage trail is interesting and also a good walk, although there are some steep sections once you leave the waterside. There are good views all around. At low tide there is an interesting range of bird life on the exposed mud. There is obviously good fishing. This a good place to tke a trip up to Cape Reinga and the nearby KariKari peninsula has a winery and good beaches.

Original town buildings in a unspoilt, beautiful, harbour setting with excellent boardwalk along the foreshore. Good information provided on the old buildings about their previous uses. Reasonable range of places to eat.

    Loved our stay in Mangonui.

Loved our stay in Mangonui. Very central apartment lovely and relaxing atmosphere, very quiet at night. Only minuses were our room was very hot at night and the bed was mediocre but ok for a couple of nights. We ate at Jess’cafe right below the apartment and the food was STUNNING!!! The board walk is fabulous and everything was super accessible by foot.

Mangonui is a cute little town with a wonderful waterfront boardwalk. When we discovered that we could join a bus tour from Paihia to Cape Reinga we knew our decision to stay at The Old Oak Boutique Hotel was perfect on every level.

Beautiful apartments overlooking beautiful Coopers Bay, direct access onto beach & nearby walking tracks & Mangonui & a hot tub too. Apartment was excellent, very clean & with absolutely everything we needed, including a washing machine & drier! The owner & staff were exceptional, courteous & so friendly, going out of their way to accommodate us when we wanted to stay longer because we were so content being there. A perfect host & perfect stay. Thank you so much, you ‘made’ our trip wonderful 🙂

My husband and eight year old daughter stayed here while visiting family in the area, and we absolutely loved it. The motel is clean and comfortable, thoughtfully stocked, and the view! The view is stunning, and cannot be beat. It is conveniently located to shops and restaurants within walking distance (although uphill on the way back, heads up for those less mobile), and has everything you might need in the rooms, great value. Thanks for having us! Tara, Connor, and Aiah from Canada

Despite the terrible weather at the time of our stay, the view on the bay was nice. The place is very central in Mangonui and we were able to walk to different restaurants nearby. We liked the fact that they kept the old building authentic yet it was comfortable, warm and clean, a very good balance between old and new. The host made us good recommendation about local restaurants.

Fiona gave us a very warm welcome and we spent a wonderful time exchanging stories with a good glass of wine. The B&B is beautiful, very comfortable and Fiona prepares a wonderful breakfast which we had with an amazing view from the terrace. This is an outstanding B&B and we hope to return soon with more time to explore Mangonui and surroundings.

Fantastic location. An awesome opportunity awaits an inspired owner to exploit the historic value and reinvigorate this hotel with a massive restoration. The room was adequate and fairly reflected the price, but the hotel was disappointing and now that it is ticked off I would never stay here agin unless it was significantly upgraded.

Classic old pub vibe. Nice bar downstairs with attached chip shop for food. The history of the building is interesting and you feel part of that when you stay there. Amazing views from the room and balcony of the harbour and enjoyed eating my meals on the balcony. Comfy beds.

The location is beautiful, sitting above Mill Bay within easy walking distance of Mangonui. The rooms are very pleasant and fully equipped. There is a beautiful pool, although it was too cold for us to swim, the outdoor area was enjoyed and well utilised by other guests.

The views are exceptional for such a reasonably priced motel. The motel itself is what it is: a motel built in the sixties and not updated since but it has a good feel, is spotlessly clean and the linen is crisp. I plan on becoming a regular.
