A very friendly, welcoming young lady greeted me on arrival. The room was lovely, large, and very clean. Comfortable bed. Loved the location - it was in a very tranquil setting. May not suit everyone as you need transport to drive to restaurants and shops. I stocked up in Oamaru before my stay. A very restful place to chill out. Take some reading material with you. TV reception?

It's a really cool town, the victorian precinct is amazing and you can spend hours just walking and admiring the buildings. There's a farmers market on Sundays and a lovely train that departs from the front to Steampunk museum to the penguin colony. It's a short but beautiful ride. There are sea lions and seals everywhere and it's guaranteed you'll take nice pictures from them 😉

    We loved Oamaru.

We loved Oamaru. It was a beautiful little town with stunning architecture and things to do. We enjoyed the steam punk HQ and the museums available to celebrate the towns heritage. Plenty of cafes and restaurants available and good quality food/ beverages.

The penguin sanctuary was lovely and we saw penguins during the day in the nests. The evening tour was fully booked so get in early if you want to do that.. The steam punk museum was suitably odd and they were very friendly when we got caught in a downpour and stayed sheltering there while they were closing. Plenty of chance to see seals basking on the foreshore. The victorian precinct however was just a street - possibly more exciting if you are from New Zealand of Australia but we live in a property older than anything on the street so not really that exciting if you are from the UK or the older cities in the US

A very pleasant surprise, was recommended to stop here by a friend, so glad we did. A quirky place , so much history. The Victorian quarter alone was wonderful. Steampunk also worth a look. Easy to walk around the town too. Ps some hilly streets 😀

This is a hidden gem of a town with unique stone architecture and history. I am biased because I worked here for two months years ago. Be sure to visit the garden and use the pool facilities if you have the time. And to top it off it is close to the Moreike Boulders... a must see.

Roger the host was very welcoming and had provided everything we needed for our comforts. The bed we slept in was the most comfortable of anywhere we have stayed. It was a bonus to be able to chat with other guests in the dining room, something you don't get in motels or hotels. Great view too. There was the initial shock of our surroundings as it is a house full of incredible stuff but it was more interesting than off putting. An experience we will remember for a long time.

Fantastic little place with a lot of atmosphere! the room had a lot of space, it was clean and super comfortable. The staff was amazing and welcoming, making us feel at hone, as every request was answered immediately. the internet was slow, but the hotel manager warned us before we even knew that there is a general issue related to the entire area, so it’s not the hotel’s fault. the AC a bit noisy, but it didn’t matter much as this hotel is a gem!

The bed were comfortable and the shower was great not a bath that you had to step into. Extra blankets if we needed and pillows. It was clean and very comfortable. Unfortunately the lift was out of order but otherwise enjoyed are stay and was very central especially to Steam punk headquarters so we could walk to most places. Oamaru is a lovely town and would highly recommend people going their to visit and stay at the Brydone Hotel.

I liked the location of The Empire Hotel, it is very close to where my friends live, as well as being close to the Victorian Quarter. The Staff were very pleasant, there is a nice feel/ atmosphere to the place. May I suggest that a couple more tables be put in the parlour, for people to eat at. I liked the Cleanliness too, but not the hard pillow. No problem I will return and will recomend The Empire to others.

YS We were upgraded and it was a large airy room, with access to a courtyard behind the room. Lovely looking motor lodge, with a manned reception which made everything easy. Staff were great, comfortable beds and very clean and fresh. A little way out of town, but only if you want to walk to town. Quiet and we would stay here again. Thanks

Thanks to the hospitable and friendly staff it's been for me the very best accommodation in New Zealand. I was very greatful to them even for not being so strict with checking out times, free left luggage room and so on. And Oamaru itself - you must visit the town to understand the atmosphere. Would love to come once again.

The building looks more like a house than a hotel. There were many decorations in the house, especially decirations of penguins, which made it very lovley. The room was large and the bed was very comfortable. There was also a massage chair. The accommodation is also very close to all the major attractions in Oamaru.

This was such a fantastic place to stay in Oamaru. The location could not have been better — right in the middle of Old Town, but tucked off the street which meant there was no noise. The place was wonderfully decorated and had everything you could need, and the fire was a nice touch. Highly recommend.

Creative hotel with all needs met. Good location and close to not only "the history" of the community, but also good restaurants close by (and they give LARGE portions.....we split our Blue Cod meal!!!). The hotel really is unique with all the variety of wallhangings and parking was not a problem.

The best hotel or motel serving visitors to Oamaru. Modern, clean rooms and suites in a historic old building with a century-old chapel attached situated in large grounds. Ideal to hang out in for a day if you want a break from traveling, being quiet and picturesque.

Everything. This is a farm stay cabin so it’s not a 5 star hotel but that’s not the idea. Delightful to be in the country but really just up the hill from Oamaru. Beautiful garden, highland cattle and alpacas to feed. Wonderful owners.
