The Waitomo Caves is a must-see, and there are other attractions close by. We grabbed lunch at the Waitomo General Store which is more than just a store. The Cafe and menu selection is amazing and very reasonably priced.
Cassandra and her team are a friendly bunch and super efficient.

The garden at the cottage was amazing to explore. Te Kuiti has a fantastic Indian Takeaway with a wide range of menu options including a traditional Chicken Tikka Marsala and a toandoor oven to make Naan. Only problem was that we arrived on a weekend and a lot of restaurants nad safes were closed and no shops open (this is normal in New Zealand country areas but not where we come from in Australia). Ladies in the inforamtion centre were very helpful.

We stayed overnight en route from Auckland to New Plymouth so saw little of Te Kuiti, but we saw beauty in the surrounds. We don't recommend taking the bypass route missing Hamilton on a rainy night!

A lovely little country town where you will meet real Kiwis.
A lovely little country town where you will meet real Kiwis. The Maori influence is noticeable and really lovely. I also love Te Kuiti ("The Valley") for it's scenic situation. A perfect place if you just want to rest for a few days.

Stoked restaurant was excellent the food was magic, fish tasted like lobster, sweet and so fresh! was partnered by a creative salad including avocado and zucchini and amazing combo of other flavors, rhubarb tart was easily the best i have ever tasted. A note that travellers should be aware of is that you can't take you're unfinished bottle home with you, a licensing rule in NZ
Everything was excellent, it was warm, cozy and I loved the spa bath.
The view was great, looking out over the grounds and hills in the distance, it helped that it was such a beautiful sunny morning.
Plenty of parking space, handy to town and Te Kuiti facilities.
Because I was travelling from the Far North and after work meant that I would arrive late at night so everything was done over the phone with the owner/manager, so I knew where to find my room and key, and was able to pay online as well.
The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and helping us plan our day, as we'd traveled to do the caves experience nearby.
The restaurant meals were excellent, great steak and burgers and they were very accommodating for my vegetarian partner.
The room itself was a little basic and showing its age, but perfectly comfortable and warm with kitchenette, tv, and private bathroom so the important things were there.
A beautiful location, very peaceful yet close to Te Kuiti and not far from Waitomo caves. We loved looking out over the views of farmland and animals. The accommodation is warm and cosy and the hosts were very friendly and helpful with recommending great places to eat and activities to do. Betty the very friendly sheep was a highlight for the kids (and me).
The location was perfect to visit the glow worm caves, zipline, and waterfalls in the area. Unfortunately, New Zealand had the worst rains and floods for decades so we missed the glow worms. The area still had enough to do we didn't waste any time. We enjoyed visiting the Hamilton Temple visitors center on the way from Auckland.
Honestly I was a little worried when we drove up to discover that this hotel was a motel but I didn't need to be. The room was clean and comfy and the windows were gorgeous. The hotel staff was also super accommodating with the late hour we arrived and early hour we left.
The accommodation was easy to find, nice and central - easy access to the main street. Beds were very comfy. Was great to have access to a fan as was quite warm.
Great to have access to a kitchen and freezer facilities. Had everything you needed there.
The location was excellent rooms were spotless and the bed was beyond comfy. Highly recommend this place for anybody staying in Te kuiti. Staff always smiling and would definitely stay again.
The location was handy to the Waitomo Caves, which was the purpose of our visit. Checking in and out was fairly straightforward. The bed was comfortable and the shower had good pressure.
Pros-
-Close to caves (15 min drive)
-Friendly staff
-Complimentary water and chocolates
-DEFINITE “Schitts Creek Rosebud Motel” vibes
- Air conditioning in main room
-Good WiFi
the gardens were amazing. the walk to the waterfall one of our favorite memories on our 6 week trip.
half hour from the glow worm caves, so fit perfectly into our travels.
Nice and comfortable hotel with kitchen facilities and a good location (at least if you move around by car). During winter it was a warm and nice room.
