Bloody snakes the lot of them - slippery and immoral. The employees manning the front desk had a permanent scowl; and hissed loudly at the slightest bother! It's as if they did us a favour instead of the other way round.
Everyone in there mumbled in low monosyllables, hedging replies on purpose to avoid overcomitting on anything larger than a small bottle of water. When asked if I could stay past the standard check-out time, a full-throated baritone "no" came the reply. ' We're fully booked this time of year, so that is out of the question! ' snapped the rather portly looking goof of a clerk camped behind the front desk. I stood there in utter disbelief - the parking stalls outside were half empty, and the hotel staff milled about silly without a care in the world!
The place was lazy with rooms until I staggered in. There was no one at the entrance to offer help, the only bell boy on duty was apparently on his lunch break at the time. Can't blame him really, as I was the only one in the queue.
The whole experience was ruefully appalling. One of the more saucy staff members at the establishment even went so far as to ask me why I'd come to Oman this time of year when it's sizzling hot. As if to say the inclement weather was to blame, and they'd be far more gracious and accomodating in the winter!
Some of the blokes sat outside craned their necks at me several times. I had the uneasy feeling someone or the other was always watching.
More to the point, the aura of the entire place couldn't have been more unwelcoming - don't come back or you'll be sorry. On a scale of 1 to 10, they're a two and half in my book, and that too because I'm being generous. In all honesty they deserve nothing more than a 0.5. The owner and his beguiling employees are a roadside circus who haven't a clue what hospitality is all about.
If nothing changes this place is a whisker away from going under - and very soon at that.

The hotel is located on a main road which makes getting a taxi relatively easy and from the hotel the routes to any of the touristy places are very accessible. That said, the orange and white taxis are not generally metered. There are lots around but they will charge you a minimum of 5 rials even just to go a few kms. The blue and white taxis are metered but harder to find. Check the distance you need to go and negotiate the price first before you climb in.
The Wave residential complex is close by and has a great selection of eating options and a small supermarket. Muscat City Centre Mall is great for eating and shopping. If you're on a budget, eat local. There are tons of options everywhere. Drive-in, takeaway or sit down. The food is mostly very good and your rials will go way further.
Just by the by, I see reviewers complaining of cold showers. The geyser on/off switch is usually on the wall with the light switches - the geyser switch has a red light. Perhaps it got accidentally turned off?
