M'AR De AR Aqueduto, hotel in Évora

Housed in a 16th-century palace, this 5-star boutique hotel features a beautiful chapel and dome ceilings. Overlooking the aqueducts of Évora, it has an extensive spa with an outdoor pool.

Located just inside the walls of the old town of Evora. A perfect base to explore the town on foot, bring comfy shoes! Modern design hotel inside a traditional facade. Rooms are very spacious, high ceilings with large bathrooms. The restaurant is super, I went for the tasting menu with wine pairing, the somm and other staff were very generous with their time and the food was excellent. Breakfast is a good buffet with plenty of options. There is also a wonderful bar space with a terrace over looking the aqueduct. Wonderful setting. Parking is good and very accessible for low or bigger cars. To access parking it is the first left before the hotel as soon as you enter inside the town walls. Make sure to go here before checking in, so as not to have to do a lap of the town's oneway system. It is not a car friendly place, you will park and not use your car again unless leaving the town.

Hotel Solar de Monfalim, hotel in Évora

The Albergaria Solar de Monfalim is situated in a 16th century Renaissance palace located in the heart of historical Évora. It features 2 terraces and serves a traditional buffet breakfast daily.

A lovely, homey, renovated guesthouse with a lot of history and lots of steps. Good buffet breakfast, quiet, comfortable bed, and hot shower. Google Maps found it hard to locate, but once found, it was nice and central. In the old town of Evora, many things to explore but arriving and departing by foot from the bus and train station is difficult with luggage on the cobblestone streets (but doable) Thank you for my stay, I felt very at home, comfortable, welcome, and safe 😀

FAQs about hotels in Évora

Antiquity and Architecture in the Alentejo

Évora is a beacon of heritage in the heart of rural Portugal. Life is played out among narrow, cobbled streets and whitewashed buildings that provide welcome shade. Most buildings are decorated with blue or yellow trim, giving this laidback city a coherent feel.

Blue tiles adorn the incredible interior of the Misericórdia Church, and the Church of St John the Evangelist also features this typical Alentejo style. The most outlandish is the Church of St Francis where one chapel is created entirely from human bones and skulls.

The Gothic cathedral has a peaceful cloister and next door is Évora Museum with its collection of medieval, Islamic and Roman artefacts. In the large square in front sit remains of the Roman Temple, and Roman bath ruins lie under the town hall.

The Palace of the Dukes of Cadaval has a turret-like tower, similar to those in the city walls. One of Évora’s most impressive monuments – the 16th-century Silver Water Aqueduct – passes right through the walls and used to end in large Praça do Giraldo, the city centre’s main square. Some of its stone arches have been cleverly bricked in to create bars and restaurants.

Booking.com’s accommodation in Évora includes luxury hotels with pools, cheap hostels near the train station and guest houses by the university.

Evora is a one-night stay town.

Evora is a one-night stay town. The Chaple of Bones was a great place to spend Halloween. Interesting history. A walk around the Public Park with the Peacocks was a fun experience. We ate at Dona Laura Restaurant which I would highly recommend to others. The Hotel was centrally located and we walked everywhere. The one negative comment was that Evora was the first city I visited where beggars approached you aggressively holding small children.

Terrific historic town, wonderful preservant of ancient buildings, culture and history mixed with modern life. Disappointed that the palace and private church were closed on Monday—tour book had indicated otherwise. Definitely a town with rich heritage worth visiting.

Historical, relatively quiet, you can walk around feeling relaxed. Most restaurants are a little pricy. Having just experienced an expensive but very low quality restaurant in Sintra, we didn't dare to try expensive restaurants in Evora. Hotels are mostly high quality. It is nice to spend a few days to enjoy this great town.

    I would highly recommend Evora.

I would highly recommend Evora. The Roman Temple is an amazing remnant of ancient times; the Chapel of Bones is fascinating, if a bit macabre and the whole town is lovely. There are a number of beautiful churches, many of which had services on Sunday. We liked that one can walk everywhere and that there seemed to be a lot of locals around (not only tourists!). We found an excellent restaurant where we had traditional Alentejo dishes. One needs a full day here at least (preferably 2 nights).

    Lovely place to visit.

Lovely place to visit. Full of history and lovely buildings. Some great places to eat too. We ate at Enoteca Cartuxa - highly recommended but booking needed. We went on a Monday and it was busy. Walked around most of the walled city but could have done with more than 24 hours to see it properly.

Authentic old city. Not too crowded with tourists.

Authentic old city. Not too crowded with tourists. Food scene was great - ate at restaurant called Momento which was one of our best dining experiences during our 18 day trip through Portugal. It was a small restaurant with a very engaging owner/chef who spends time with each guest explaining the farm-to-table eating adventure.

This was my second stay this year at the hotel. I had a great experience the first time and this stay was equally as good. The location is unbelievable, it is so close to all the major sites you want to see. Not that breakfast was not excellent the first time, they added apple tarts and a new coffee machine. Unlike the cheaper Nestlé machine you see at many hotels this one had a much larger selection of coffee/tea drinks. I am coming back to Evora in the spring and am looking forward to my stay at the Solar!

Loved everything about this property - a beautifully renovated home, the family has converted to a hotel to create a legacy for their deceased parents, well regarded pharmacists in the community. Our room had a beautiful deck, the breakfast was of high quality, served in a stunning room, parking was nearby, lovely roof top terrace, location was central and walking distance to everything, customer service was very positive and friendly. Highly recommend staying here if Evora is in your travel plans.

The hotel is in the old building and it is very stylish: old doors, furniture, atmosphere like from the real past. But it is comfortable. Especially high pressure o water under the shower! Divine! The real fire place in the lobby makes it even better. Great staff, very helpful. Breakfast in Portuguese style: just basic, without any vegetables, but it is the same in all hotels in Portugal that I was in. The location is in the very center of old town. For me - great.

It’s a high level modern hotel close to the center of Evora, the interior are of design and there’s a beautiful pool bar. The room is comfortable, so is the bathroom (despite the reviews about the lavabo dimensions). The breakfast is really large and varied , also if we found that some food like croissant or brioche seemed not so fresh (they we’re quiet dry). There’s a large parking area, so it’s a really comfortable stay if you are travelling by car.

Wonderfully preserved architecture of a 15th century convent, where our room was a former monk's cell. Almost had to duck to get through the door! And right in front of the hotel are 1st century Roman ruins. The lovely small city of Evora is very walkable, very charming and a fantastic location from which to explore other great towns and sites in the area. Our small rental car was perfect for getting around some of the very narrow roads in town.
