FAQs about hotels in Bucharest

Where Modern Meets Old

A fascinating mix of old and new, Bucharest is one of those cities where you can find a futuristic structure of glass and steel next to an old church, separated by a Communist-style massive edifice. Not overwhelmed by its dark past, the city is now turning its optimistic face towards the West.

Undergoing constant modernisation processes, the city continually changes and new modern structures pop up in the city centre and beyond. Great examples are the stunning Basarab Bridge, Europe’s widest cable-stayed bridge, and the City Gate Towers.

Whilst admiring the new, don’t miss out on the old classics, like the Parliament Palace, the world’s second largest building, with over 3100 rooms and impressive marble interiors covering 330,000 m². Make sure you admire the view from Nicolae Ceauşescu's balcony!

To fully appreciate the city’s long history, from Vlad the Impaler (aka Dracula) to the ’89 revolution, the city offers free guided walking tours, giving you a great opportunity to discover all the city’s secrets. And spot all the best shopping venues!

Before you land at Bucharest Airport, just 18 km from the city centre, make sure you check what Booking.com has to offer: from hotels to apartments, just a few clicks away!

Without the GPS of the private car, it is impossible to go to the place you want. The drivers in the cars are ill-mannered when driving and do what they want on the road, especially with the turns. They are patient on footpaths, but on the move they drive and blow horns like in India. Another thing that disappoints me too much is that many of them don't know two words of English. Only Welcome when they hear Thank you. It is mandatory to download an online Romanian language translator as an application on the personal phone.

It's a city with a fascinating history. We would recommend the free guided walking tours as they give valuable insights into the story of Bucharest. We also enjoyed the tour of the Palace of the Parliament as well as the Village Museum. A trip by rail to Brasov in Transylvania completed an excellent few days. It does take time to work out how to get around the city on foot and there is a lot of traffic!

The people of Bucharest made the city friendly, welcome and accessible. The absolute majority put sincere effort into answering the questions of a tourist. The old town and significant historical buildings were as interesting and impressive as those any European capitol. Eat in old town and travel by Uber or taxi --although supposedly notorious, I always new where i was going and got only to my destination at a fair price from both.

A lot of places where you can eat good food, a lot of events happening so you won't get bored (art galleries, concerts, theatre, conferences, gatherings etc). As a solo woman I didn't feel safe at all in Bucharest - a lot of homeless people everywhere you go - they stare at you, follow you on the street, try to talk to you - so it's not the best feeling when travelling solo.

Bucharest is a beautiful city with many sights to see and many wonderful restaurants to eat out in, I'd especially recommend around Herastrau Park - some excellent restaurants with amazing views over the lake, even better at sunset.

The city's history and buildings are fascinating, and there's so much culture to explore. I loved relaxing in the parks and trying out different restaurants. At night, the city lights up with fun things to do. But what really made my trip special was how friendly everyone was. Bucharest is definitely a place I'll remember fondly.

This comfortable boutique hotel is very well-maintained, decorated in classic style, and very conveniently located in easy walking distance to the university, old town, and the central attractions in Bucuresti. The staff and receptionists are very accommodating to special needs (for example They arranged for a late evening pick up for me from the airport). The mic dejun (breakfast) is traditional romanian and very well-prepared (including fresh omelette if desired). Above all, the rooms are quiet and comfortable.

The Europa Royale Bucharest is excellent. Right next to the Piata Unirii metro and on the edge of Bucharest's Old Town, the location couldn't be better. Being on the edge of the Old Town means it's quieter than most hotels in the area but everything is on your doorstep. The staff are great, the breakfast is good, and the rooms are just what you need for a city break. We stayed at The Europa Royale Bucharest on three separate occasions during our trip to Romania and would happily stay there again.

We got stuck in Bucharest as our flight out was cancelled. So were in need of an extra night and since the airline was responsible for our hotel we decided to treat ourselves to this 5 star hotel. We were not disappointed. Wonderful building, great rooms, very friendly staff. We had to check out early to catch our rebooked flight and our breakfast was already waiting at reception so we could take it with us to the airport. Can recommend this place.

Lovely young woman at the front desk (we arrived a bit late). Welcomed us, outlined hotel details, made sure we had all questions answered. Room was exactly as requested (Maroc), quiet, lovely space, plenty of room, great AC, comfy bed. It's in a prime spot in the Old Town but 5 mins walk to major transportation. The hotel has an excellent place, very near the old Bucharest old town and very near the city center. We been given a very comfortable room there was a shower, and toilets. To reach the hotel from the airport you need only one bus. Breakfast was excellent, much better than standard restaurant breakfast. One can't ask for more than that.
