Extraordinary hospitality & sincerity! The proprietor, Mr. Li, his entire family, and his team could not have done more to welcome us into their community and care for our needs & comfort. Whether it was the unique chance to participate in an event at the community center, deep insights into the local tea culture or just quality time chatting about the history & issues affecting Fenqihu, we were sincerely included. The cheerful, hard-working staff from the Philippines deserve special mention for maintaining this rustic setting while making special efforts to insure our comfort.

The staff are some of the friendliest and most helpful I have ever met in my travels. Although we slept in and missed breakfast time, they kept food for us as they knew we were tired from the previous day. They were also so helpful with giving tips on the nearby trails and getting around Alishan forest area!

This has to be one of my most pleasurable stays I've had in Taiwan. The host is incredibly kind and caring. The facilities are really nice, the bed really comfortable, the breakfast and tea is delicious and the views in the area are amazing. Also the cat is adorable. Can absolutly recommend staying here and would gladly do so again myself. It's best if you know a bit of chinese, but I think you can make due anyway with google translate.

Zhongshan Hostel, hotel in Fenchihu

Zhongshan Hostel is situated in Zhuqi, 25 km from Chiayi City. Rooms are equipped with a TV. Rooms are fitted with a private bathroom. Extras include slippers, free toiletries and a hairdryer.

It was great. Especially the owner, who helped us a lot with everything and was very friendly. AI if you don't know Chinese, don't worry, with a little pantomime and modern technology you can agree on everything.

Legendary Bed and Breakfast, hotel in Fenchihu

Offering free WiFi and mountain views, Legendary Bed and Breakfast is an accommodation set in Fenchihu. The accommodation is 1.6 km from Alishan. The homestay is fitted with a cable flat-screen TV.

The location of this B and B is breathtaking. If you come by bus, be prepared for a bit of a hike up the hills, or make sure you get picked up either in town or at the community centre. The breakfast was excellent, and they did much to address one of our dietary restriction (one of us is celiac). The room is large, the beds comfortable, and the view outstanding. We really recommend this.

Just wanted to book a simple bed for the 3am wakeup to run Alishan mountain. Although not the original booked spot due to no water , but the boss had a backup place ready. The room was spacious, and clean topped up with amazing views. The boss was very nice, walked me through the streets and suggested some popular places to eat and buy gifts she even suggest a good trail walk route.

Alishan Tea Garden B&B, hotel in Fenchihu

Sitting at an altitude of 1,300 metres, Alishan Tea Garden B&B offers a relaxing getaway in a memorable setting. The bed and breakfast is right next to Fenchihu Forest and overlooks Dadong Mountain.

Nice hotel, cosy room. But a double bed is a bit small to accommodate two people. A queen bed is preferred. Nice location for sunrise. Good breakfast.

This is a rustic location on the side of a mountain, so watch your footing & be prepared for a lack of services. Weekends are very crowded, whereas weekdays are relaxing, but many venues close. The hiking trails are well developed & maintained making this a prime attraction.

A recommendation for Fenqihu area is to look into visiting Da En Na Ya tribal area (Google it). This is a mountain tribe accessible by car on specialty tour visits, or by train from Fenqihu and another 4km of hike. But the tribal area is worth a visit as the tribe runs accommodation, restaurants, a bakery and is self-sufficient. It carries a high level of dignity and pride in interacting with the outside world, and is truly the highlight of my trip to Taiwan.

The front desk staff was super helpful.

The front desk staff was super helpful. The breakfast was delicious and had many offerings. The room was spacious, had nice touches such as heated bathroom floors and bed, and each room had special touches that were unique (e.g. our room had glow in the dark stars on the ceiling). The location and views were amazing from our balcony and the property is very close to wonderful attractions, such as HeHuan Mountain. The only challenge we had was finding the property, which is located in a narrow road behind a market parking lot.

There are several trails around the hotel that suitable for every body to explore. The views are excellent. Nearby restaurant recommended by the hotel owner is nice and delicious. We enjoyed very much. Fenchihu is a small village with many friendly people and beautiful environments. I like it very much.

Majority of visitors stay there for only few hours, but it has a lot to offer and can easily spend a few days. Short hiking trails with stunning views are just minutes walk from village center, and there are also longer trails available (advance arrangement for return transportation strongly recommended). The village is small yet with enough number of shops and restaurants to choose. There are a also a few truly local food and produce. Most shops and restaurants close at 7pm, so good for those who prefer a quiet night to rest, but not for those who like night life. Summer is the rainy season so best is to go during winter and the temperature is still warm at mid-teens.

Small town with scenic trails, a nice market, and a good bento box restaurant. Definitely worth staying a night, and it's close to Alishan if you want to have the hotel arrange a trip there for sunrise. Very quaint and cozy.
