極の宿 eXtreme, hotel in Xiaoliuqiu

Set in Xiaoliuqiu, 極の宿 eXtreme offers a restaurant, sea views and free WiFi, 1.5 km from Habanwan Beach and 1.7 km from Meiren Beach. With garden views, this accommodation provides a patio.

Great view and plentiful of cute cats around ! Breakfast is included however if you don’t want to have their breakfast they’ll give you a 100NTD refund (I only ate the breakfast my first day and opted out the second day). There’s lots of restaurants around. Also it’s quite a distance from the wharf and if you can’t ride a scooter, then you’ll have to borrow an electric bike (A-Wei Electric Bike rental). The shop owner was really nice and transported my suitcase to the hotel and then to the wharf when leaving (so don’t be afraid to book this place because of the location !) Finally there is no elevator so do keep that in mind if you’re travelling with larger suitcases. Otherwise I enjoyed my stay and would stay again.

Ship House, hotel in Xiaoliuqiu

Offering a barbecue and terrace, Ship House is a 10-minute walk from Baishawei Fishing Harbor. It is a 3-minute walk from the beach. All rooms are equipped with a TV.

The most striking thing about this hotel is the lovely design of the house and the rooms. Each room is lovingly personalised. I had the Arctic room, where the walls behind and beside the bed are painted with penguins and seals in their natural habitat. This room has enough space for two people including large luggage and has a small balcony. It has separate rooms for a comfort shower and toilet. The centrally located hot and cold water dispenser helps to reduce plastic waste. Communication works well even without English with the help of translation apps. The central location of the house means that everything (ferry port, supermarkets, restaurants, etc.) is within walking distance. The hot water is heated by solar thermal energy, which means it can still be a little chilly in the morning. But that wasn't a problem for me.

We enjoy swimming at the beach just behind Siaziyu and Zhongao Beach. We enjoyed our dinner at Sushi Restaurant (肆不惑 壽司.丼)$$$. (Advise to book advance through their fb) we are lucky to get a place on spot. Easy to get by around the island by Electric bicycles if you do not have any motorbike license. Always prepare raincoat incase it rains. I got seasick when heading to xiaoliuqiu! Strongly recommended to take sea sick pills 30mins before board the ferry, it helps me when on return journey!

We have been coming to Xiaoliuqiu for 7 years and it is one of our favorite vacation destinations in Taiwan because it is not difficult to get to, but feels like you are "getting away". The pace of life is much more relaxed on this little island and there are many treasures to discover (fresh fruit smoothies, delicious local cuisine, western cuisine, shaved ice/desserts, beautiful scenery, sea turtles, tide pools, coral caves, beaches, a new aquarium, and so much more). There is something new every time we visit and it is fun to discover new things while going back to the familiar.

The government has implemented an ecological protection zone...

The government has implemented an ecological protection zone for the island 9 years ago and the local economy has definitely benefited. The island is clean, and the promotion of eco friendly practices is visible and implemented. This includes preference for electric scooters over gas, refillable water bottles (and places to refill them for free) over disposable, instructional videos on how to treat the sea turtle population and fines for mistreating them, promotion to locals to invest in solar water heaters and electricity. There are many opportunities to explore, short accessible trails, access points to snorkel on coral reefs with sea turtles, instruction in kayaking, scuba, snorkeling, free diving, plus some very picturesque local temples, cuisine. The island is small, 30 minutes to circumnavigate, the folks are friendly, however, English is not widely spoken (not a problem for me) and Taiwanese dialect preferred over Mandarin.

Great place to get away from it all.

Great place to get away from it all. Awesome ecological wonder! We snorkel and saw amazing live coral and lots tropical fish and swim with sea turtles at multiple beaches. Food is traditional Taiwanese. We speak Mandarin, but may be challenging for folks without some Chinese language ability.

Great place to visit for a couple of days. Swimming with sea turtles is an unforgettable experience. Our family rented electric bikes to tour around the island.....just as much fun as snorkeling with the turtles!!
