Mangrove Lodge, hotel in Grave Island

Mangrove Lodge offers eco-friendly accommodation in Zanzibar City. The lodge features a restaurant, bar and lounge with hammocks.

Whilst there are a number of little things that could be done to improve the experience, it is certainly somewhere I’d consider coming back to. It is about 30 -40 minutes from Stone Town, the last ten minutes on a dirt track, but sign posted from the main road (if you are in a taxi/Uber). This last bit can get muddy in wet season. The restaurant view is of a creek and boat workshop, but the beach and pool view is idyllic - the photos on booking dot com are accurate. The staff are very attentive and proud of the establishment. Food is simple but well prepared and tasty, they ask you to order at leat an hour ahead. There is no alternative restaurant close by. Breakfast (included) is a buffet with eggs to order, perfectly adequate. The room was basic but very clean, well protected from mosquitos (with nets on the beds and windows) and plenty of power points. The bathroom was surprisingly modern and very clean. The shower is outside with a privacy screen, plenty of hot water if you remember to turn it on. Each cabin s sufficiently isolated and surrounded by vegetation so that privacy is guaranteed , although the are ‘semi detached’ - we had no neighbours during our stay. If travelling as a family this means you can effectively have adjoining rooms. Rooms are air conditioned and quiet. Noting that Mangrove Lodge is significantly cheaper than a lot of other hotels/resorts on the island, it is certainly worth consideration

The best was the service and the people taking care on me! It is a very nice location and the combination of business and relaxing works. Gym and SPA are acceptable and again here the service of the staff is sensational and this makes the few obstacles forgetting! I definitely can recommend the Hotel!

Zenji Hotel, hotel in Grave Island

Zenji Hotel is located in Zanzibar City. Free WiFi access is available. Each room is air-conditioned and most rooms feature a balcony.

Breakfast was perfectly good - fresh fruit, coffee, Spanish omelet taken on the rooftop terrace. The location is good for Stonetown and easily accessible by vehicle for pick up and drop off.(possibly an issue with centrally located B&B) The road is however a little noisy as it’s at the entrance to the port. Air con in room excellent- beds lovely- bathroom also good. It’s a good honest simple place. A 1950s or 60s building I’d guess. Not much character less the beds and the rooftop eating area. Easy walk into Stone town centre - minutes.

I didn't know about Grave / Chapwani Private Island until I came across the property on Booking.com. It was by far the best place to stay in Zanzibar given how much I needed to unwind after a 'weird' 2021` (COVID was only part of this year), and how I don't like noise and being hassled by vendors. The staff really made my stay very relaxing. Very attentive and a friendly, they made me feel welcome as a solo traveler. There's a lot of natural beauty to enjoy on the island and the hermit crabs AND coconut crabs were fascinating to watch, and the fruit bats were interesting to observe too. There's just a lot of serenity around this place...
