During my last trip to Zanzibar, I had the pleasure of staying at the charming Clove Island Hotel, a true gem located in the picturesque village of Makunduchi. This hotel attracts with its peaceful atmosphere and is an excellent place for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Upon entering my room for the first time, I was greatly impressed by its spaciousness and elegant design. My room was not only beautifully arranged but also equipped with an effectively working air conditioning system, which is invaluable in Zanzibar's hot climate. The room's window offered a breathtaking view of the blue waters of the Indian Ocean, and the sound of the waves brought a deep sense of relaxation.
The cleanliness in my room was of the highest standard. Everything was fresh and immaculately clean, making me feel very comfortable. The tranquility that prevailed at Clove Island was a true blessing for those seeking respite.
The hotel's location was also very advantageous - it is situated a short distance from the popular towns of Paje and Jambiani, which made it easy to explore local attractions.

Place is wonderfull, hotel is not big - it has about 12 rooms, which was probably the best part for me, there aren't any annoying beach boys on the beach (unlike other tourist spots in Zanzibar) or close to hotel. Place is quiet and you can just enjoy amazing viewes of the blue sea on the pier or even inside the pool on the pier. Paddle boat and kayaks were available for free, and the snorkeling around reef (about 500m from the hotel) was amazing, a lot of corals, anemones, sea stars, urchins and fishes. Food was also great, but not all meals were available every day (especially fishes and sea food - I guess it depends on the catch of the day). Staff was the uniqie thing for me, which made the stay even more memorable - Diana and her collegue (sadly I can't remember his name), who even offered us to show us local village of Makunduchi. I really appreciate their services. We originally booked standard room and we were upgraded for 2 nights to room with private pool, so we had a chance to compare both variants - I really liked the room itself at pool-variant, because it was much bigger and bit more modern with alexa music, pool itself was a nice addition, well lit during night-time, but in the same time it attracted a lot of insect, bugs and other tiny creatures, they gatherted there every evening, there are other 2 pools in public area of hotel, so I wouldn't fully agree with other reviews that private pool is a must-do and is way better, but definately it is not worse. Both types of rooms were nice though.

The hosts Marissa and Simon are so friendly, kind and helpful. The rooms are big and super clean. The property is peaceful plus the staff is always there to assist with every need.
Offering a swimming pool and free Wi-Fi throughout, Casa Beach Hotel "Casa Del Mar" is located in Jambiani village. This beachfront accommodation is set in a well-kept tropical garden.

The beach was pristine, and our breakfast was delicious. We celebrated my son Naail's birthday there, and the staff went above and beyond to make him feel special. Thank you to the entire team for your exceptional service.

I've been in Makunduchi before and if you don't want to be in the tourist hotspot it is great! The beach is fantastic (but be aware of the low and high tides). I would recommend arranging for a driver to get around as there are many great places to visit and you shouldn't stay put in just one place.

Due to tide no chance to enjoy the sea.
Due to tide no chance to enjoy the sea. Beaches are long, white and quiet. Very less tourist traffic. However far away from all the attractions. Nmemba island 2 hours drive, stone town 1.5 hours drive etc

Going to VFDL requires some consideration as to what you are looking for. If you are looking for nightlife and great culinary experience close to shops/city this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a relaxing experience in a beautiful remote location where the staff is trying to make your stay the best, this is the place to go. For lunch/dinner we choose the eco resort next-door, which had a fabulous kitchen and a pickup service although only 900 meters away.
Take your own nibbles and snacks before setting off for VFDL since these are limited available. Internet is reasonably fast and allows for Netflix streaming if you are a TV addict (there is no TV in the rooms).
All in all we were very happy during our stay even-though seen the 100$ fee to go and get back plus the limited food possibilities makes it a little expensive.
All in all we will certainly come back to the new and improved version after the renovation !!!!

I have stayed in other resorts on the island and as far as value for money goes, La Madrugada is in my top three. It is located in an area that doesn't get too much traffic or foul weather during high season which makes it ideal as a family getaway. It is an absolute pleasure to sit on the white sandy beach and only have to walk a few feet to return to your room. Comfortable surroundings, good food and a relaxed atmosphere are its distinguishing features. The Hakuna Matata lifestyle might initially be a bit frustrating for those used to a more fast-paced existence, but after a few days the island becomes bliss and you fall into its easy, slow pace.
