The beautiful and helpful staff are the highlight of Sunshine Marine Lodge. The food was excellent, with a wide array of options to choose from. The spa is a fantastic amenity to the lodge, with lots of affordable treatments carried out by the team of great therapists. Yoga with Ana (who is a fantastic teacher) is also a really great addition to the property and I recommend to future guests taking some classes to unwind from your day and carry you into a chilled evening.

Wonderful location just next to beach. Nice swimming pool and hammocks in a shaded area. Clean, spacious rooms with good air conditioning, mosquito nets and staff who treated the room to get rid of insects. We stayed in this hotel for 6 nights. We absolutely loved every part of our stay. We had the feeling that all employees are happy and satisfied, which made our stay especially enjoyable. The location was great and we loved our morning and evening walks on the beach. The food was the best we had during our entire Tanzania trip. Huge compliment to the chef, he's really talented. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Loved the little book corner with the games and the afternoon cake and coffee! The owners are very friendly and welcoming and often came by for a chat. Thank you for this beautiful memory!

It’s very quiet, very few non hotel restaurants, overpriced food everywhere, can’t swim in the sea unless you don’t mind knee deep water. There’s no town, or town centre outside the beach hotels, so a long stay would be challenging if you want more than just lounging by the hotel pool.

Matemwe and its area is a quiet place where you can relax and enjoy the beach, the activities (snorkeling, swimming with dolphins) especially if you are a couple, because the village is not very full of enterteinments or night parties.

Crystal clear water - despite there being sea urchins - if you have rock/ aqua shoes - you can still swim and explore the waters and reefs. The beaches are a lot quieter and peaceful than the busier beaches up north. The tides are also fascinating to watch- you can walk out to the reefs and cycle along the beaches when they go out!

Marafiki gets a 10/10 from us on all fronts - breakfast, lunch, dinner, pool, cleanliness, hospitality, music, sustainability, beach, communication. My husband and I stayed 4 nights at Marafiki after our Safari and had the most fabulous time. The rooms were very clean and quiet, and beautifully set up. The food is exceptional - please try the tuna tartar and all the specials! We had a relaxing time at the spa - you must try the full body scrub and massages. We used the free kayaks during sunset and enjoyed the stunning view from the water. The water is shallow so even if you go far, you can get off the kayak and swim. Since the hotel is east facing - sunrise is exceptionally beautiful. The water is still and shallow, and you can see all the fisherman walk up to the reef to catch the fish. The hotel also arranged a cooking lesson in Matamwe village for us - we learned how to cook ‘muchuzi’ from scratch which was a very meaningful experience. Overall- no negatives. We had the best time and will be back!

The beach is beautiful, but it's not really a beach you can swim on - there's a big tidal range - when it comes in it's quite choppy with lots of seaweed, and when it's out its corally with lots of urchins. But it's interesting to watch the local people looking for octopus and shellfish every day. It's quite a quiet area - all the bars are part of hotels. A few nice local restaurants around. Quite a lot of beach touts, which we found off putting. Not loads of activities to do in the area - 1/2 day snorkelling/dolphin watching trips at Mnemba Island basically.

This place is an oasis of tropical, spiritual & happy vibes. It is an heaven for travellers that want a down to earth experience, beautiful garden & common areas. Salama is a super intimate place. The rooms are very spacious and beautifully decorated. We travelled around for 6 weeks in Zanzibar and Salama was easy the best value we got. The beach is just 7 minutes walk from the hotel. A big bonus is all the cosy places you can work or just relax & read a book at. At Salama we felt at home.

The Zanzibar queen is not only a beautiful hotel, it has an amazing ambience of a family welcoming you into their home. All the staff was amazing from Marta, George to Robert and the wonderful Fahya in the restaurant. They assisted us in booking all trips, so we got to see lots of things around the island, with their driver Nasaer who was great and knowledgeable. It was just me and my husband and we found this place just perfect for us! I would definitely recommend this wonderful hotel.

It is located near a small village. the beach is in front of the hotel, it isn’t the best place to swim but it is the perfect place to see local life of the village people and the fish market. Great staff, very kind, friendly and helpful. The breakfast is delicious and very large. If you book the dinner, you can eat a dish (starter or main course) at lunch and the other at dinner. The food is very good! The room is very nice and big!

Matemwe is very quiet in a natural surroundings. The food was very very good in the restaurant with a beautiful view in front of the beach. In the morning during low tide it's worth it to take some shoes and walk with local people in the sea to see some starfishes (do not touch them or take them outside the water, it can kill them). The staff in the hotel and restaurant was kind, smiling and very helpful. We had a wonderful time.

Salama & Mbuyuni is an absolutely beautiful, clean and laidback gem in Zanzibar. The owners, Maria and Paco, are an energetic and very social couple from Spain, who have been living on the island for more than a decade. We particularly enjoyed the friendly staff as well as the amazing juices and the pool in the tropical and beach-vibey garden. The breakfast was much better than in most places in Tanzania.

The hotel is located right on the beach, one of the most beautiful beach in Zanzibar. The rooms are bungalow type, very spacious and clean. You can spend your free time reading a book in the hammock, by the pool or on the sunbeds by the hotel’s beach. The traditional seafood dish was a delight.
