This was just a one night stay during a road trip on the California coast. This area is beautiful with many attractions, including nearby beaches, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the town of Carmel.
The hotel is clean, the mattresses very comfortable. It would have been nice to have a mini refrigerator and a coffee pot in the room.

Marina has a small town feel with a lot of amenities.
Marina has a small town feel with a lot of amenities. Marina State Beach has a lot of rough water at this beach. It is not always safe to swim in. They have a Walmart and a Target, Starbucks, and other places to eat. This little town is very close to Monterrey. It should make your stay easy.

Marina is awesome, very low key city with some great food spots. Definitely a getaway city if you don't want to be around many people. The beach is close as well and other cities nearby are not far at all.

I didn’t even stay at the property because they said they didn’t know if the rooms were occupied with homeless people or not their system was down. They house homeless people in some type of program there. The check in lady literally told me the cleaning lady is a crack head. It was a terrible experience and I had to spend extra money to go to another hotel the same night with my family.

The place was filthy.
The place was filthy. I slept on top of a towel I brought from home, in my clothes. We felt unsafe...the 3 security guards there made it seem worse. The night check out was no where to be found. It just gave me insight into how filthy what used to be a dining room. There were filthy dirty rags under the fridge. Not one surface looked clean. I stuck our room cards in the edge of the front doors so when they opened the door the staff would know we tried checking out. I wouldn't trust leaving the keys in the room since the room on the other side of us laid uncleaned long after we checked in. DON'T TRUST BOOKING.COM CARES!! Staying at this place proved that all too clearly!

The property is very run down with trash everywhere.
The property is very run down with trash everywhere. Not as advertised! Hot tub was dirty and full of leaves, no one showed up to put out the "grab and go" breakfast, and "across the street" from the beach is a bit of a stretch, it would be a 10 to 15 minute walk. Also the hotel parking lot shares with public beach parking.
Clean, comfortable, quiet and about a 15-min drive from Carmel, so on a holiday weekend when hotels in Carmel/Monterey were all booked up and/or crazy expensive, we booked this last minute and it totally did the trick. Not someplace you'd stay for the actual motel, but a fine place to sleep in the area at half the price of the fancier towns where we spent our days.
This is a motel, not a hotel. For over $200.00 a night, it is not worth it. It was clean, the staff was helpful, moving our room for us after a noisy family moved in next door, plenty of towels, comfy bed. Walls are paper thin, breakfast, yuck. The scrambled eggs were probably powder, not many choices, crowded tables, short hours. Nothing close by...
Quiet location, Double room is very roomy and clean. It also included a work desk, great for business use. I came here to take exam at Cal State and this hotel is less than 5 mins from it! Perfect location if you need to visit Cal State. Room also included breakfast with good choices and good quality.
I liked everything about my stay. The staff was very friendly and I loved how big the rooms are. I also am very glad that there was a store right next door considering that there were no vending machines or an ice machine on the property for the hotel.
The rooms are extremely small. The staff was rude on the truck in a really creepy looking Gothic girl with a very bad attitude. There’s a lot low life people staying here at the hotel, it really has a dog and I am definitely not pet friendly gross
The breakfast is typical continental breakfast. Nothing special. The location is really close to the beach and pretty amazing! For the price you really can’t beat this place. It’s not a high end hotel definitely good value for the money
Only a 5-10 minute walk to Marina State Beach so that is a plus, plus. The rooms are updated, clean, and comfortable. Good value for the area and across the street from an upscale cottage hotel which charges 3x the amount for a room.
Save yourself the money and the trouble and don't stay at the Sanctuary. Stay at the best Western across the street or see the sunset at Marina State beach on your way to Monterey, it was incredible.
Friendly staff. The room was comfortable. TV had lots of channels. Convenient to have a mini-mart and gas station next door. Quite a few simple restaurant choices nearby. Good value hotel.
A traditional hotel with large rooms, comfortable beds, 24 hour coffee and tea available, breakfast can be had in a cafe across the road. I would like to add one floor lamp to the room..
Clean, close to the beach literally walking distance. Would recommend for family’s traveling and needing a place to sleep and not just lounge in the hotel room,Cozy small rooms.
We stayed at this hotel during our trip to the Big Sur. The hotel was clean and comfortable, wich was all we needed since we arrived at 7pm and left by 7am. Breakfast was nice.
