Debbie, who checked us in, was outstanding with a winning smile and a friendly demeanor. She gave us the full rundown of the place and directions using the map and a little bit of history about the resort.
The views are stunning.

This property is truly a gem and the most bang for your buck you’ll find out of many places definitely able to be a 5 star or higher hotel, all they would need is a spa and bar/restaurant

This was a pleasant motel that has created a very interesting motif that is fun to look at and be around. The rooms were normal and had all the amenities that you would want but nothing exceptional. The snack room was very useful and you could access coffee and snacks even though these were not offered in the room and there was no breakfast offered at this location. Depending on your food habits, what they offer in their snack room could be perfectly fine for your breakfast.

Monarch Mountain is an independent resort, not one of the "big boys". Therefore, the amenities were a bit less flashy. Ski lifts are definitely old and slow. However, this was reflected in lift ticket prices being half or less than half of the big resorts. Food prices seemed more reasonable too. It snowed the entire time we were there so the powder on the mountain was great. Not a lot of grooming on the runs, but with the powder, they really didn't need it. While not a large ski area, there was a nice variety of runs that were easy to get to. It is only a mile or two from Monarch Pass so pay attention to the weather. The road (Hwy 50) can close when conditions are bad.

The staff were excellent, the location is special and the room was large and comfortable.
The dining room process was stretched and the choices were very simple; breakfast was limited and, unusually was not free.
We had a car problem but the landline phone was out of service and we were unable to make the right contacts. That certainly wasn't the fault of the hotel but was a limitation for us in such a remote location.

Interior and exterior needs some serious TLC.
Interior and exterior needs some serious TLC. The back of the property is beautiful. Everything inside is old and out dated. Water pressure on room was good & beds were comfortable. This property has so much potential. It could be a gem of a hotel if it was updated even just a little bit.
