Paonia is the heart of Colorado's West Elks wine region.

Paonia is the heart of Colorado's West Elks wine region. It is far less crowded and commercial than the Grand Valley AVA. The wines are characteristic of cooler-climate grapes. We love the laid-back vibe, the amazing produce (especially in summer) and, of course, the wine. There are also excellent restaurants there. Our dogs were welcome on the patios of most establishments.

The town is small but tries really hard.

The town is small but tries really hard. People are very friendly. Lots of wine tasting and a great goat cheese farm. Bike rentals and hiking available. Easy access to other area activities. Close to the Black Canyon.
