We loved the location of the cabin in relation to the distance from anything that we may need. Just a quick 10 minutes or so away from the stores and the "city life". We were happy to see wild Turkeys and Deers while driving to and from the Cottage. The firepit is very well done and great for relaxing. When we needed to go into the town for anything we were always met by friendly faces and helpful people. This is a great little area to visit. We all had fun while we were down here.

There are some very interesting points of interest, especially for negro league baseball buffs and wonderful old architecture, but like so many cities, drugs and unemployment have ravaged the place. Do your touring during the day and keep your wits about you. Over all, there are much to see and I visited and worked there many times without incident.

The hotel bedding was filthy. Stained.

The hotel bedding was filthy. Stained. Dried blood on the mattress protector, stained mascara on pillow case, what looked like dried snot on sheet and stains unknown. Several of the other guests staying there were fighting and yelling at each other throughout the night. You could smell cigarette and pot smoke in the building that is supposed to non smoking facility. Booking.com should not have this listed as an option and we should have received a full refund fir how bad our experience was. This is not a family/kid friendly hotel. We would have left but it was late, we were three hours away from home and unfamiliar with area. We checked promptly the next morning. The staff was nice and apologetic but were not able to fix or control the situation. We called front desk multiple times and spoke with manager in morning.

    Family lives there.

Family lives there. Town is a old steal mill town And pretty run down, no major eating places, most electrifying local eateries. Major by-passes around the city. The flood wall was a good attraction. On the Ohio River.

This trip was to go to Lucasville Trade Days and then to the river in Portsmouth to see the floodwall murals. However, the weather did not cooperate and once it started raining the plan to see the murals was tanked. That will have to be done some other time. My friend & I went into Portsmouth & ate pizza which was very good but then the rain started so that pretty much ended the day.
