San Antonio in Texas is home to 2 of the state’s top attractions – The Alamo and the Riverwalk. One of the city’s former Spanish missions, the Alamo was the site of a deadly battle that cost folk hero Davy Crockett his life. The other remaining missions – Concepcion, San Jose, San Juan, and Espada with its aqueduct – are dotted around the city. The attractive Spanish Governor’s Palace also remains.
The San Antonio River runs right through the city, below street level. Known as the Riverwalk, its banks have been cleverly developed to house riverfront restaurants, bars and shops, and are spectacularly lit for Christmas. There are several San Antonio hotels by the Riverwalk which are also close to the Rivercenter Mall, the city’s biggest shopping centre, while La Villita artisan village offers more traditional crafts.
Across the road in Hemisfair is the Tower of the Americas, a tall observation tower with a revolving restaurant overlooking the Alamodome, a huge sports and convention venue, home to the annual Alamo Bowl collegiate football game. Booking.com offers several San Antonio hotels near the Alamodome, and more accommodation near San Antonio Airport.
On the outskirts of the city are Sea World and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. The city also hosts the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, one of the country’s biggest Western events.
Definitely do the mission walk. Go down the river, on a bike if possible, and hit every mission. They are gorgeous and so is the river.
Riverwalk is okay, but very commercialized. It's not relaxing or enchanting. A little chaotic and corporate.
The art museum is excellent. Botanical garden is good too.
Food is great!
3 days will give you plenty of time to see everything.

We loved the River Walk and went almost everywhere using it.
We loved the River Walk and went almost everywhere using it. The Museum of Art is fantastic-so is the restaurant there- Tre Trattoria. The Pearl is a fun spot especially on the weekends when the outdoor vendors are there. Ladino Restaurant was our favorite meal. The river tour was fun too, and you can also catch a shuttle on the river.
There are lots of breweries. My favorite was Roadmap, and Back Unturned was good too with great pizza.

For this trip to San Antonio (eclipse day pass was booked at the Adega Vinho Winery) I primarily limited my adventures to the Rivewalk area with a haunted pub crawl and a tour of 4 Spanish Missions. The Hotel Contessa was right on the river walk path and within walking distance either down along the river, or at street level. Three nights was about right, although I should have allowed time for a dip in the rooftop heated pool.

Restaurants on RW were just ok..nothing special.
Restaurants on RW were just ok..nothing special. Everywhere we went the wait staff was too few. I don't recommend Mia Terra at historic market.
I do recommend Guenter House and pioneer flour mills.

Well to begin with it's my hometown it's where I grew up although it's not the same as when I grew up it's growing too much it doesn't feel the same as it did but I guess progress is good but it still has that comfortable feel for me lots to do lots of good food. good weather
This gem on the Riverwalk is a true treasure. The building was originally a saddle shop, and the lobby tastefully provides a tribute to its history. And now it’s a wonderful boutique hotel in a vibrant city! The rooms are exquisite getaways, each with a spacious bathroom that includes a shower and a tub with jets. I really appreciate the fruit delivery in the evenings and the spa. The hotel is located on a quiet street but right above the Riverwalk and close to everything.
This was our first time staying at a Drury hotel. We found the hotel to be exceptionally clean. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The hot breakfast was both plentiful and tasty. Their evening cocktail social with complementary alcoholic beverages and hourderves was a pleasant surprise. The location right on the Riverwalk was wonderful. Overall a great stay. I would highly recommend this hotel.
This is one of the best locations on the Riverwalk. One block out the front door is the Alamo (I mean literally one block). Walk outside the back door and you are on the Riverwalk. There are bars, restaurants, and music everywhere.
The hotel is clean, comfortable, and staff everywhere to assist you. Finally the hotel is beautiful inside with gardens and water features.
This was twice that I've stayed at the Hotel Valencia on the Riverwalk and have enjoyed my stay each time . It's located right on the Riverwalk and is so close to so many sights and restaurants which made for a great experience. The staff was very friendly and easy to talk to , and the room was very clean just as I expected it to be. Thank you for wonderful vacation.
The location next to the Alamo and close to the Riverwalk, shops and restaurants was excellent. A traditional hotel the staff were extremely friendly and efficient. The room was clean and tidy and the TV had an extensive range of programmes. The swimming pool was well maintained and bar we reasonably priced and well stocked. Overall, a most enjoyable stay.
Location was everything!!!
We booked something not on the riverwalk but also not too far away and we're very surprised at how amazing the location was. Right next to the shopping strip, quiet at night even with all the hustle and bustle. Literally a stones throw from the Alamo and less than a 5 minute walk to the riverwalk. Loved the hotel itself.
I LOVE how cozy the little villa was! We felt right at home, relaxed in the tub after a long day on the Riverwalk. We went during Fiesta Festival, where the city was buzzing with people, but our villa was super quiet! The bed was comfy & I love having a full kitchen! I will stay here again & again when we come back to San Antonio!
We really enjoyed our clean room and hotel in general. The bed was very comfortable. We couldn’t have been more pleased with the location right on the Riverwalk. It was easy to pull in to valet and get to our room. The staff was very accommodating and extremely pleasant. It makes you feel like royalty.
It is easy to reach downtown as a bus is leaving right infornt of the hotel. One ride is only 1.30$. The rooms and bathrooms were clean, WIFI worked well. It is probably the best option if you are low budget traveling, the price-performance ratio is really good.
Love the location, the amenities/perks of staying with the Drury (Pool/hot tub overlooking San Antonio, Kickback, 3 free drinks, breakfast, Riverwalk direct access, valet, hotel architecture/ design) staff is also very kind and attentive
The hotel was fantasitic, the room was cozy and the bed very comfortable.
The location was amazing, literally 2 min away from Alamo and Riverwalk!
The stuff was very friendly and really went above and beyond to satisfy our requests.
The rooms were dirty and smelled of mildew, I worked in construction for years and I can tell they have a major problem behind those walls. This hotel says it’s near the Riverwalk but it’s not even close, overall bad experience.
The hotel and room were attractive and clean. Front desk service was great. Our view was a city view--just ok. Access to riverwalk and outdoor areas are excellent. Plenty of hot water and comfie beds.
Great location very close to riverwalk and Alamo.
Nice and charming old hotel, friendly service. Own little parking. Try to get a room with balcony, great to have a last glass in warm nights.
The location of course! San Antonio’s Famous Riverwalk! Awesome hotel! Great open bar during happy our for guests. Awesome culture! Room was amazing! Clean and comfortable.
Staff and restaurants were excellent. So convenient to everything since it is on the riverwalk. The RIO cruise is located right in front of hotel at riverside.
