Hlosi Game Lodge - Amakhala Game Reserve, hotel in Amakhala Game Reserve

Situated within the Amakhala Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape and offering an intimate Big 5 experience, these luxury lodges feature exclusive furnishings and private terraces.

The Hlosi game lodge and the reserve were one of our highlights of our SA trips. We had a lovely very spacious house and deck with 2 bathrooms with in- and outside showers. Restaurant and deck with view to the waterhole with 2 hippos was amazing. All game drives were breathtaking and “successful”. We saw all big five (replacing the leopard by cheetahs) plus giraffes, zebras, kudus, etc. very close. It was our best location to spot many animals.

    The whole experience was amazing.

The whole experience was amazing. Difficult to put into words. Spectacular views from the lodge, very knowledgeable and professional rangers, great food, extremely friendly atmosphere, very thoughtful touches (like running a bubble bath on return from game drive), wonderful decor.

Beautiful place, well managed where the staff have massive respect for the animals and care for them, from a respectful distance. Not too many people out on the drives at once which is good as some reserves can get quite crowded - shows good management. Saw all the animals we could have hoped for and got to witness some amazing things, from a close but safe distance. Amazing. Relatively easy to get to too. It is a dirt road leading up to the lodge but easy to navigate even in a very small car which is what we had. Great experience.

A beautiful and well managed reserve.

A beautiful and well managed reserve. The landscape and different biomes are interesting to see and the wildlife are abundant. It is not crowded and made us like we where to only people there. Its clear to see that are leaders in conservation management and community engagement.

The entire Amakhala experience was magical.

The entire Amakhala experience was magical. Faultless from start to finish. I would suggest that Booking.com inform clients that lunch on the day of arrival is included. Also inform of the length of the drives…4 hrs and 3 hours. Water and cosy ponchos are provided. The attention to detail on this trip was excellent. The food and ambiance were top drawer. Although you can never tell which animals you’ll see, we saw a large number, including a close up lion, on our two drives and 1 night stay.

Fabulous facilities and accommodation - they had thought of everything. Staff were very welcoming and made you feel at home - even ran you a hot bath and made your room warm for the return from the game drive. Amazing game driver who was very knowledgable and did all that he could to ensure we saw all of the Big 5 - which we did and more! Food was amazing too. All round I would give 5/5….

The elephant herd (about 30 elephants) came to drink from the swimming pool at our lodge. What an amazing experience! Our game ranger was knowledgeable, patient and determined to find us viewings. Our host at the lodge was a pleasure - full of fun and jokes.
