We were pleasantly surprised by Bloemfontein.
We were pleasantly surprised by Bloemfontein. It is clean and neat. The Botanical gardens are absolutely beautiful. Extremely well cared for - definitely worth a visit. Oliewenhuis art museum is free (R10 parking fee only) and lovely for a visit and a picnic in the grounds.
Nice restaurants; good malls; traffic not too bad at the time we visited.
I'd recommend Haru Sushi restaurant.
Tempe golf club at the Tempe Military Base (open to the public) was an unexpected find - cheap round of golf on a nice course.
Disappointed that the planetarium visitors centre doesn't seem to be open, most days of the week; it only opens for special viewings.
Naval Hill worth a visit - friendly ostriches and beautiful views.

I lived in Bloem for 9 years, it was great in the 90's.
I lived in Bloem for 9 years, it was great in the 90's.
Unfortunately, the city has deteriorated massively.
I would not go to Bloemfontein for leisure or tourism.
It is central to stop on the way to/from somewhere or if you have some work / business / family-event to attend to.
Great place to shoot a dystopic movie seen!

We spend half a day at the Boer War Museum, inside and all outside exhibits -it is well worth seeing! It gave us not only a much better understanding about cause for the war, the battle actions and the political aims of all parties involved, but also the extreme suffering of non-combatant population mainly women and children!
A great deal of care and attention has gone into the room about the concentration camps.
At the exit of the museum’s building is a light room with some comfy sofas inviting you to rest your legs and browse the different books about the Boer War.
After that tough but necessary topic relax with a drink from the coffee shop just across the lawn… it has excellent coffee!
The greatest asset to the hotel is Marlie who manages the show there. We had an issue with our car when we checked out and it was a Sun and there was no one available. Marlie went out of her way to help us locate a mechanic, drove us to the nearby store to pick a few essentials and was helping us till the end till we left Bloem. If it wasn't for her we would have been in a serious pickle. Thanks Marlie !!
The BF was great and the location is amazing. Plenty of space to move around and open spaces .. loved the property. It is just great.
We were pleasantly surprised on arrival with a pristine clean, comfortable and well equipped cottage. The Hosts have gone above and beyond expectation to provide all the small comforts one would expect at home. It is the small touches that warm the heart. The Cherry on Top was a well-marked cupboard that contained towels, food bowls and a selection of toys for our little furball, much to his delight. Mossie-nes will definitely see us again should we visit Bloemfontein.
I booked the room for my father who was driving from Cape Town, and needed to stop over in Bloemfontein. On check-in there appeared to be a double booking error when my father was given a different room to the one I booked. This was quickly resolved by the guest house management (who were very easy to communicate with), and was soon in the correct room. He had a very comfortable night before resuming his road trip.
Exceptional all around. They are a little ways out of town but if you have transportation that’s the best thing because Bloemfontein is a little bit dirty. Initially I couldn’t get my rooms together but they were able to correct that on the second night. I feel Ariana went above and beyond. Cannot talk enough about the feeling of inclusion when we went to harvest olives.
They make you feel like family.
It was safe, everything was within my reach so I was just walking to every location and that saved me money for cabs, not forgetting that the hotel was affordable itself.
There was always someone at the reception when I needed something and they helped with a genuine smile. I was more that satisfied with the service, felt like I was in a five star hotel, I was very happy was even difficult to leave.
The tranquil location and the luxurious rooms made this an unforgettable experience. The breakfast was really, really good and more than enough. The price point for this is most likely the best in Bloemfontein. As a family of 4 we enjoyed our stay and would definitely go again.
It was our second time staying at Stonehill Villa and will never stay at any other place in Bloemfontein. The rooms are nice and spacious, with self catering facilities. The hostess that welcomed us and the morning staff were extremely friendly and helpful!
The staff are very nice and welcoming they go all out to make you comfortable, a good place to rest and stay away from the noise. Comfortable bed. I will certainly stay at Lizbe Accommodation on my next visit to Bloemfontein.
I did not eat breakfast at the hotel because i was meeting with other people booked in another place however i enjoyed my stay at the hotel and my room was real value for money and was very clean and spacious!
The hotel is very well situated within Bloemfontein and has private access to the adjacent mall. The beautiful inner garden and pool area creates a relaxing area to swim, sunbathe and relax.
The front desk gentleman and the waiters were 👌 such a joy. Clean room with a comfortable XL king bed, loved my stay. Will be my go to hotel while visiting Bloemfontein.
It is the second time we stayed at Asania Guest House and we love everything about Asania Guesthouse! We will stay in no other place when in Bloemfontein.
