FAQs about hotels in Cape Town

Cool, Colourful Cape

Between mountains and beaches, the 2nd largest city in South Africa mixes history, resilient modernity, and a typical laidback African character. From the top of Table Mountain to the colourful Bo Kaap quarter, and from the Victoria & Albert Waterfront to the modern business district, Cape Town blends multicultural influences and beautiful nature.

Known as Kaapstad in Afrikaans, its sunny weather and mild temperatures make it a perfect place to enjoy the large number of beaches that surround it. From Sunset Beach to Hout Bay, and from Simon’s Town to Gordon Bay, this city offers a variety that suits all tastes. Whale and dolphin watching is a popular activity in False Bay.

Located on the Cape of Good Hope, the city was founded in 1652 by a Dutch trading company as a way-station for ships travelling to the East Indies. With the settling process, all sorts of foreign plants were introduced, including the grapes in the famous Cape Winelands District, just outside Cape Town.

Cape Town’s history does have some darker periods, and some of its memorable places from this time deserve to be visited: Robben Island jail, the City Hall from which Nelson Mandela gave his first public speech, and the statues of the 4 South African Nobel Peace Prize winners on the V&A Waterfront.

Cape Town traffic is horrendous. And the city is dirty.

Cape Town traffic is horrendous. And the city is dirty. Stay out of the city, there is a lot to see and do on the outskirts of the city itself. Do visit places like Waterford, the Oranjezigt Market, Haute Gabriere, Anthoni Rupert wine farm (but remember to book). On a clear day, after 4 in the afternoon, go watch the kite surfers at Blouberg, it is amazing. Drive out around Signal Hill and have lunch at The Lookout in Houtbay for the best fish and chips (they do have lots of other great stuff on the menu). Watch the cliff divers (hang gliders) at Green Point. The best visit (and I will go again) was Babylon Storen. This is a must for everyone. Their farming concept is out of this world. Do put a whole day aside for this, you will need it.

Cape Town is a beautiful City, the city has many option for visitors, you can go to Waterfront to eat, ride on a boat, go to the mall, enjoy your time there is affordable. You have Table Mountain, Camps Bay Beach, City Center, Green Point neibhborhood that awesome, Sea Point Area with many option to buy and walk around and of course visit near cities with Wineyards like Franschhoek and Stellenbosch besides Cape of Good Hope. Capetown @ seapoint and V&A waterfront as well as city were just best good places to be. Side of table view mountain was very beautiful. Never got to see a lot because it was a short visit. My recommendation is to have a home that will accommodate the paras and be removed next to student accommodation as they become a threat to young students

Had higher expectations as of friends stories regarding the city, besides the waterfront I did not like the city center and I felt a kind of insecure even that nothing happened to us. Typical tourist spots are crowed but organized ok. All people were lovely, no word to say more. We drove out towards the wine region and from there my view changed and started loving the country. So get out of Cape Town and enjoy the country.

I was in Capetown for the Cycle Tour race.

I was in Capetown for the Cycle Tour race. It is an attractive city, but it has it's dark side. Crime is rife, and walking around as a white tourist, apart from in places like the swish V&A Waterfront and some classy neighbourhoods, is not recommended.

The location was perfect. Right at the entrance to the V&A Waterfront and a short walk to the Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre. Most days we walked via the Canal from the hotel to the Wharf and it was lovely. We especially enjoyed the water machine opposite the vending machine which dispensed free ice cold and fizzy water. Upon check-in, our room wasn't ready so the hotel stored our luggage for us while we went out so we didn't have to worry about carting our luggage everywhere. The staff were always friendly and helpful.

This is an amazing place to stay. It offers a well equipped kitchen, an heating and cooling system and a super clean home. This property is super clean, close to several shops and restaurants. It is just few minutes walk to the V&A waterfront and other beautiful places in Cape Town. It has a beautiful view of the city, especially at night, and I must say that the comfort, space and facilities makes it a better option than using the hotel. The location of this hotel is very close to the popular V&A waterfront area (about a ten minute, easy walk), in what is known as the SILO area. There are many restaurants, shops and a huge, modern mall in this area. Lots to see and do. Hop-On bus is very nearby as is the cruise terminal. Cabs or Uber from the cruise terminal (needed if you have luggage), is less than $10. The restaurant is a good place for lunch with good light eats. The WiFi is very good (consistent and strong).

We needed accommodation close to the Cape Town Marathon starting point and the location was perfect - barely 5 minutes walk to the DHL stadium. The location of Villa Capri is also perfect for walking to the V&A Waterfront (1km), Oranjezight Market (500 m) and the promenade just across the road. The apartment is very spacious, neat as a pin and we really appreciated the washing machine and tumble dryer.
