Pietermaritzburg, once an attractive, clean town, with numerous historic buildings and home to a number of well-established schools, is looking shabby and uncared for.
I have no idea why anyone would want to head there - we were there for a tennis tournament - and couldn't wait to get on our way and back home!

PMB is a traditional city in South Africa.
PMB is a traditional city in South Africa. I stayed there for work, so I did not really drive around and spend time in the city. I enjoyed the Olive & Oil Restaurant at Cascades Life style Centre. PMB is not that big so to get around is easy.

Pietermaritzburg has historic buildings.
Pietermaritzburg has historic buildings. The architecture is varied and interesting. Though the town center is quite busy, as you move further from town it is quiet and laid back. There are newer developments outside but close to town, like Hesketh estate. There is so much potential for further growth and development for the town.

We did not get to explore Pietermaritzburg itself but we did visit the midlands which is conveniently situated nearby. Very beautiful with lots of lovely stops along the way. Highly recommend the midlands meander.

Freedom to go in and out of the hotel. Freedom to bring in the food I bought from the shops. Privacy and quietness to relax in your own room. Room cleaning service. The place is in the cbd not far from kfc, hungry lion, chicken licken, shoprite, Street vendors etc. Taxis, bolt and uber are easily accessible. Not too far from the eldo, greyhound and intercape offices. Some staff members are very friendly.
The staff were nice, but they didn't go out of there way to help, for instance l asked or some sandwiches for the road when l went home by bus,all l was told is that we don't do that, the same when l asked them to call a taxi to pick me up in town and bring me to the hotel, they don't have the manners needed for the successfully running of the Inn.other wise my stay was nice but not fantastic.
The unit is perfectly situated in Pietermaritzburg and central to most amenities . The golf course is affordable and in a good condition with lots of changes for the better since I last played there a few years ago . The estate is very safe and serene . The pricing of the unit was reasonable considering its location and comparable fees with other places around the area .
There was an mugging attempt in front of the hotel. Could not find parking and had to park on the streets. We were ambushed by 3 men trying to take our luggage. It was a mess outside. Looters everywhere and beggars sitting outside the entrance. Now I see they are trying to debit my card after paying R500 deposit. Please assist
I tis a beautiful place which was in one of the affluent areas of Pietermaritzburg a while ago. Lee went out of his way to accommodate me even unexpectedly to extend stay an extra two nights, excellent service, thank you Lee in fact I have actually recommend Athlone Manor and will continue to do so. *****
NNothing at all
The lady at the reception showed no interest at all, very rude and no hospitality at all!
She ddnt give us the correct information
I ended up not a having place to sleep in Pietermaritzburg , drove back to my house where I stay
I regret it
The unit was quiet and very centrally located to all amenities. it was a safe area with safe parking and accommodation. the unit had all the equipment available to ensure a nice and relaxing stay. I will recommend this for families.
The hosts were very kind and the room was beautiful and well equipped for my stay. It's also close to PMB Mediclinic and was easy to find. The bed is very comfortable and the linen of great quality. Thank you for having me :)
Nothing, at breakfast when I asked if they had bacon the response was just so rude. I was told that this is not a 5 star hotel, and I was also told that they did not have bacon because Muslim people don't eat pork.
Arrived at the gate had an awesome ride in with a golf cart which was amazing the host was friendly and so welcoming. Definitely planing to come back when we're in pmb again.
A lovely homely B&B in safe, quite area of Pietermaritzburg. Very accommodating and welcoming owner.
Good breakfast. Comfortable bed. Relaxing garden and pool.
