Pilgrims rest is an old gold mining town that has been preserved as a living museum. Very interesting looking around the buildings and village. Watch out if you park car as the locals have a tendancy to wash the vehicle without asking and then charge you. If you do get caught out only pay 80 rand

The roads have too many potholes and this extend the duration of the trip. Do not drive at night. There's a lot to do in Pilgrims Rest, it's a tourist destination. If driving from Jozi, its a long drive

It was really a great surprise esp. after many years of not operating and very dangerous. The town upgraded and I loved the teagarden we had lunch at. The pottery and stain glass shop. The people so friendly and the place really clean all over. My husband had trout and I had a chicken mayo pancake. He had a mampoer milkshake-excellent and I had a lovely coffee.

We enjoyed our short stay in Pilgrim's Rest.

We enjoyed our short stay in Pilgrim's Rest. We arrived a little late in the day due to long delays due to roadworks. Most tourist attractions closed at 4pm so we couldn't explore that afternoon. They opened again at 9am, so we delayed our departure to explore a little, but didn't do the attractions justice. We did however enjoy our drink and supper in one of the local pubs and enjoyed our interactions with the friendly locals.

If a cultural tour is what you are looking for the. The town is perfect to have a blast form the past. It is rather quiet, but an opportunity to stay in the town was great for someone that really enjoys South African history.

We had a lovely time! We are vegan, and the chef went out of his way to cater for us. The staff were very friendly. The room was big and cozy en the fireplace was stocked with coal and wood every day. The trails are magical. The road to the hotel is rocky, but you do not need a 4x4 to get there, it might just be a bumpy ride. We will definitely go again!

The atmosphere, the friendly staff and the beautiful cottage we stayed in Tania organized us a bigger place where we stayed in hotel number 1. So I've asked her if can organize a bigger place for us to stay in and in a jippy she did so. And we recieved cottage number 6 witch was amazing. We will definitely go their again.

We liked the colorful old look to the room. They really do try and keep it as original as possible. The staff was friendly. The location is good. The Hotel is surrounded by many museums. Very interesting. We visited the Old Cemetery and a very nice pub in Lower Pilgrimsrest. One day is not enough to spend in Pilgrimsrest!

Staying at the hotel is like spending time in a living museum. Gorgeous quaint town holding on to its heritage. The downside is that with that there is no or very limited internet access, and no TV.

This is a beautiful location with several walks to waterfalls. Both the evening meals at the hotel and the meals at the poolside cafe/breakfast room were excellent.
