Made famous for its “hills alive with the sound of music”, Salzburg is a very pretty town filled with romantic buildings and squares. If you are not yet aware that Mozart was born here, then you will be as soon as you land at Salzburg W.A. Mozart
International Airport. Further your education about this musical prodigy at his actual birthplace, Mozarts Geburtshaus.
The city is the namesake of the Salzach River which runs through it, and alongside this beautiful river lays the Schloss Mirabell, one of the many impressive castles within the city limits. Schloss Mirabell and Hellbrunn with their picturesque gardens, beautiful galleries and impressive halls make the ideal spot for a picnic during summer.
The white-stone Hohensalzburg fortress is perched upon a green hill and offers magnificent views over the city. Or, you can escape it all in the Kapuzinerberg forest, which offers splendid Alpine vistas- a reminder of Salzburg’s natural beauty.
The shopping centre focuses around Alter Markt Square and Getreidegasse, the latter is a quirky street with old-fashioned signs indicating what each store sells. With 125 hotels and guesthouses available on Booking.com, your stay in Salzburg is bound to be as pleasant as this city is pretty.
Salzburg is a beautiful city, packed with historic buildings...
Salzburg is a beautiful city, packed with historic buildings and fine architecture. The cathedral was wonderfully ornate, Baroque or perhaps Rococo in style. Mozart's birthplace, and museum were interesting. The Hohensalzburg castle well worth a visit, as were the beautiful Mirabell gardens. Sadly, some places seemed to be only open those willing to pay large amounts for a Sound of Music tour. But perhaps my personal favourite was the cable car up Mount Untersberg on a perfect sunny spring day with stunning views down of glorious green fields and magnificent snow capped mountains. The 48 hour Salzburg card provided a brilliant opportunity to gain entry to most of what we did and to travel on the buses and cable car.

We are huge Sound of Music fans so it’s a must if you are a fan. If you’re not then there’s loads to do and see, museums, galleries, churches, historical architecture - bus, coach and trains are excellent for travel to nearby mountain ranges and scenery including lakes.

Salzburg is a wonderful city in any season.
Salzburg is a wonderful city in any season. This particular visit was in late winter so the weather was a bit changeable; hot and sunny some days and rain on others but overall the weather was just what we expected for the time of year.
Weather aside, the city had a lot to offer. We liked the history it offers from the huge fortress to the cathedral and other churches.
We also liked the options to get out into the fresh air for some great walks around the city and further afield. A long walk to Schloss Hellbrun was again a favourite this holiday.
And after all that walking, history and culture the options for food and drink are endless. We really like the local wirtshauses which serve proper Austrian food and of course the Stiegltkeller for food and bier.
Overall, Salzburg is a very pleasant place to be whatever you want to do and we will be back time and time again at any time of the year.

Salzburg is a beautfiul city, very clean and surprisingly very quiet. We spent 2 nights in Salzburg and 1 night in innsbrucke and though I would recommend more time in innsbrucke instead, Salzburg was a great place to start our travelling as everyone is so friendly and helpful with recommendations on things to do and go. A great place to go for a hike about half a hour away is schoder.

Salzburg Altstadt and Neustadt were very accessible.
Salzburg Altstadt and Neustadt were very accessible. The roads, cycle lanes and pedestrian areas were well organised and made it easy to get around. The streets were impressively clean and the public transport services were excellent, very timely and affordable.
We enjoyed some local cuisine, the markets were very pleasant with a good local feel. Day trips out of Salzburg were very good and we would recommend them. The Salzburg card was a good deal as long as you plan what you want to see, do and for how long. As the Spring/Summer season had not started a couple of locations were not available.
Musical events in the city were second to none with a good range of concerts and recitals. We enjoyed numerous city sights, historical monuments and had chosen Salzburg for Music and Mountains in particular. We were not disappointed.
There was a good range of cuisine from traditional to international. Our only disappointment was that in general coffee was not very strong, nor hot enough in most cafes.

The Old town is great for exploring with lovely lanes and alleys. I loved the castle and thought it was very good value for money with lots to see and read.
The pop up beer garden in the square was good for people watching and some great shop displays for Easter.
We did do the Sound of Music tour and enjoyed going a bit further out of the city as it is quite small and you can see most of the sights in a couple of days.
Mozarts birthplace, residence and the Mirrabell gardens are also worth a look at.
It was a lovely weekend of walking, beer, cake and chocolate. What's not to love
LOVED the location and history associated with the hotel. On top of a mountain, great to hike to castles 🏰 and other historical sites. There is
a short walk on a trail to get to a lift (if you don't want to walk down the mountain) that will take you down to the old part of the city. Or take a taxi to Old Town for €14. Lots of shopping, restaurants, beautiful buildings, etc..
Scrumptious breakfast buffet with lots of choices. Rooms very clean and spacious with wonderful views of Salzburg and the Alps.
Spacious and clean room rooms; all necessary equipment to cook for family; washing machine (important as stay was part of a multi-stage holiday); quietness of room; ease of entry and exit; modern facilities; location - we were aware it was out of the city centre, but it was easy to walk to from the train station and we were able to get bus tickets from the shop opposite the aparthotel and get the bus from right outside to the old town in ten minutes. Really lovely base for our first visit to Salzburg.
Everything about Hotel Wolf was perfect! The location was in the heart if Old Town Salzburg with shops, restaurants and castle within its vicinity. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the room was extremely clean. I loved everything about this hotel. The handwritten welcome note was a personal touch especially that the hotel is family-owned. I highly recommend this place and will no doubt be staying here again in the near future.
As we were travelling by train with quite a lot of luggae the hotel was extremely convenient to the train station (100m). The room was a good size and quite comfortble and the staff were very friendly, professional and helpful. Great view of the Hohensalzburg Fortress from the breakfast room and of the mountains from our hotel room. Only a relatively short walk into the new town and old town. A very easy town to get around.
Very convenient hotel with parking and nearby the funicular and old town. The hotel staff were very nice at reception and provided clear instructions. The hotel rooms have AC, which worked well and were very necessary during the hotel summer. The rooms were also very clean, including the bathrooms, and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast spread (for an additional price) is very large.
1. Cozy Room. Decent. Nicer than in pictures.
2. Quiet location near the city centre. (Note: around 15-18 minutes walk from Salzburg train station)
3. Nice breakfast buffet (mainly cheese, ham, bread, cereals and boiled eggs) at the modern-looking restaurant of the hotel
4. Large common area for free coffee and tea
5. Friendly receptionist
6. Enclosed shower space so bathroom is not so wet
Loved the hotel and location. It's exactly next to the train station. You basically walk out of the station directly into the hotel. Great facilities and room. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was perfect with a mall and so many shops and restaurants all around and the bus station right outside. Would definitely stay again and recommend it to anyone visiting Salzburg.
Motel One Salzburg South is awesome. The location is on the fringe of the city center and close enough to get to the city and the old town. We drove from Vienna and parking is provided in the Plaza basement parking (for a fee). A supermarket is just outside the hotel.
Staff was warm and very helpful. Rooms were clean, comfy and cheerful. Highly recommended
Love the apartment hotel. Room is very spacious, and well equipped with stove for light cooking and utensils. Takes about 15 minutes to the Old Town, but no worries, the walk along the Salzach river is rewarding. Didn't try their breakfast, so not able to comment. Will definitely stay at Villa Elisa again if i visit Salzburg
A lovely hotel with extremely friendly and helpful staff at a fantastic price. Great choices for the buffet breakfast.
Location 7 stops on the bus from the airport (20 mins) and easy walking (bus 3 stops) distance to the city centre of Salzburg.
The room was nice, modern and had a view of the Salzburg. I loved the rooftop bar, make sure you go for a drink when there. A big plus was the parking garage, since I came by car. The hotel is a short walk to the city centre.
I like the Location which is very near to the Salzburg main train & bus stations. There is a good Thai Restaurant just opposite to the Hotel. The breakfast was good. The hotel is a historic heritage property.
It's conveniently located near train station which is great if you plan to explore not only Salzburg, but mountains near by. Overall comfortable hotel with fun interior design elements.
We stayed at this hotel for a weekend getaway in Salzburg. The staff, facilities and location were fantastic; very close to main attractions and the Old Town. Highly recommended!!
Great Hotel, staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely room which was very spacious and clean. Great Location, with easy walking distance to the new and old towns of Salzburg.
Wonderful quaint hotel, pension near the train station. friendly staff, comfortable rooms, close to train station and within walking distance of old town Salzburg
