We have been here in Sosua for one week.
We have been here in Sosua for one week. We stayed only two nights at Sosua Ocean Village after we canceled our Airbnb because it was horribly dirty. I do not feel this is a town for children. The ocean village is, but if you stay in Sosua and intend on going in to walk the city, etc, no. It's so busy, with random dogs and motorbikes and cars everywhere. The number of times we had to walk on the busy road over the sidewalk was countless.
Sosua Beaches waves are big, which is not a good place to swim. Playa Alicia was better, but there was lots of garbage washed up on the beach - tons of it. I don't know why it isn't cleaned up. You also have to pay to use the palapas and chairs. We had our own beach towels, so we did not take advantage. Sosua Beaches vendors hassle you a bit, and the prices are high. You should not pay more than 100 pesos - more like 50 for a fresh coconut. One vendor tried to charge me 300 pesos.
The restaurants are plentiful, and lots have great food and great prices. Take note of the two taxes they add! There is 18% tax and then a 10% tax that is a service tax = 28% TAX. I have read that this 10% does not all go to the server and can be kept by management or distributed amongst all staff, so be sure to leave a couple of extra dollars if the service is great.
The Ocean Village is beautiful, but where this condo is situated is not ideal. You want to be away from the workers coming in and all their loud motorbikes that they rev repeatedly. The ivory or peach condos would be better. We would never stay in this condo again based on its location. Good Luck!

Horrible, dirty, the rooms are old and dirty, the towels were broken, the toilet was not working, the floor was dirty and the bed was broken. Not to forget that the bed sheets were used. There was not water to shower and i felt like i was in prison or something similar

I have been to Sosua 5 times for the beach, Playa Alicia is my favorite. The restaurants were plentiful & all great and it is a very walkable town. The traffic is noisy and a bit dangerous but if you like local flavor its ok. There is an overwhelming amount of Prostitution, so not a good place for children. I wish it could be cleaned up because they have some of the best beaches I've ever seen.

Sosua has changed considerably over the past few years but it is still a good time with many things to do. The beach is very nice and the water is calm and clear and great for swimming. We ate at Mofongo King and also at Valero 108 and the food was delicious 😋

For the single male traveler who want s modern room close to everything, this is a perfect hotel. Price is a little high but the free bottled water and modern rooms help to overlook the price. Great location.
I was so pleased with my experience at Villa Mar Sosua that I ended up staying twice more on my 3 week trip traveling around the DR! BEAUTIFUL property, cutely decorated rooms, and very kind staff. As a solo female traveler in the DR for my very first time, I was a bit nervous about safety - and I felt SO SAFE here on this property. Parking was easy, and they have a restaurant on site too (though I didn't end up getting to try it).
Very basic place, rooms on the top floor of somebody's house. Just a bed and case, not even a chair inside the room. But also quite cheap, so I was not expecting much. Few local fastfoods and cafeterias nearby, bigger supermarket across the street. 800m to Sosua beach and diving centers. Polite owner. WiFI was OK, broke down few times for a moment but generally works reasonably. Small swimming pool available for guests.
They upgraded me to a suite which was very nice. The first night the music was loud but I talked to the gentleman at the front desk and the next night it was better. It was in walking distance to all the restaurants with a wide selection of foods and close enough to both beaches, Alicia and Sosua. There was a taxi/bus stop right across from the hotel to get back to Puerta Plata. The staff was friendly and helpful.
The hotel has exceptional staff immediately upon walking in, I felt like I was home. Everybody I met was warm, friendly and went above and beyond to make my stay amazing. The proximity to the beach and the main strip makes it fun. This was my second visit to Dominican republic and the first time I stayed in a hotel and not an all inclusive....this hotel is the way to go!!!
Hotel is located in the middle of the action, though there is no noise at night. The staff is very friendly. The staff responsable for cleaning the rooms does a very good job. Overall the staff likes to smile a lot, so I felt really welcome. The poolview from the balcony was relaxing for the eyes. My stay was overall comfortable.
I'm in love with the Sosúa Ocean Village condo, especially the terrace overlooking the pool. It's my sanctuary, whether I'm savoring morning coffee by the ocean or stargazing in the Caribbean night sky. This space is the perfect mix of tranquility and luxury, where I've discovered solace and cherished unforgettable moments.
Hotel Europa is good for a one or two night stay. The Best thing about the stay is the bar out front owned by a beautiful Dominican woman named Ramona. The hotel is very out dated. It's location is a 10 minute walk to the center of the strip where all the action is. If they renovated Europa... it would be a great hotel.
The staff was very professional and the complimentary breakfast was superb. Also, the room was very clean and the bathroom was excellent. Also liked the mini fridge band if I didn't have a place to stay, New Garden Hotel was a very nice stay. Finally, the air conditioner worked when I needed it.
Hosts Massimo and his wife are delightful - helpful, friendly and accommodating. They helped make our stay memorable. Room very nice and perfectly clean. No AC, but big fans and nice breeze from ocean. Short walk (15 - 20 min) to town and Sosua beach. Highly recommend. this property.
Just a great, well-run hotel in the perfect location. My room (13) on the ground level was really good. Water pressure was solid and it got really hot. I'm surprised by some other negative comments, but maybe the rooms aren't all the same. Close to a small, but beautiful beach.
I enjoyed the free breakfast. Good cooks. The location is great because all of the places to go, to see, nightlife, etc., are in close proximity of the hotel- short walking distance. Everything one could need and/or want is close nearby!
Location was great! Very close to the beach and the action but far enough where it was still peaceful. Ideal location and great food and prices at the hotel restaurant. Friendly staff and everything we needed.
The big King sized bed, the clean room, and bathroom, the lights in the ceiling and above the bed, the free bottled water. I loved how the hotel is nearby to all the beache, bars and restaraunts in the area.
The breakfast was great, there were a wide variety of food to satisfy everyone's taste
The location is awesome, the view of Sosua Bay from the dinning room is very relaxing and breathtaking beautiful!
The hotel was amazing and greatly located in Sosua. Theres a beach names Playa Chiquita right in front where you can enjoy the sunset. I will without a doubt comeback to this hotel.
