Excellent location with historical and religious...
Excellent location with historical and religious significance. Maheshwar used to be the Capital during reign of Ahilyabai Holkar. The town is on the banks of Narmada river, on the ghats of which, one can spend endless hours. Maheshwari sarees are a must-buy. The place is clearly the inspiration for movie Baahubali. The ancient name for this town was Mahishmati, which was used in the movie as-is. The grand temple structures in the town were visible in the movie too.

Maheshwar is my favourite getaway.
Maheshwar is my favourite getaway. I love the place and its rustic charm, the Narmada riverside and its peace and tranquility and its piousness. Definitely worth visiting this tapobhoomi of the mother Rani Ayilhyabai.

The place is calm and quiet.
The place is calm and quiet. Best way to wander & explore Maheshwar is thru Auto. The Auto driver I found was very good and prompt. He showed me all spots I had asked him to explore. He knows good eatery points. Maheshwar has lot of potential to get developed into a good tourist spot. Commuting between Mandu and Maheshwar is not easy using public transport. You are dependent on hiring a car only. The ghat area is very filthy. Needs top most attention by local body towards cleanliness. Overall the stay was memorable.
