Why I chose Palampur to stay for 3 nights !!
Why I chose Palampur to stay for 3 nights !!
So my trip started from Chandigarh me and my family. We had a full circuit kind of thing to cover. In that strech from chd to Palampur comes various Shaktipeeth (& to know history of our temple's) one should definitely see them except relegious elements added to it. Chintpurni, Jwalaji, Brijeshwari (each place is 12-20km to each other in distance) and then Palampur (where we stayed) completed my first day. Mesmerizing view from my homestay a walking trail in front of my balcony, beautiful mornings. Lush green trees and a normal weather (not too hot not too cold) pleasant.
Day 2: Since our next step was to go Baijnath which was again approx 16-18km from Palampur. Shiva temple one should must visit this place (Architecture is the beauty added to it) not so planned what my next step would be but I saw a sign board in the middle of the road pointing Bir-Biling at distance of 18-20km both and everybody knows what it is famous for Paragliding. Yes, it is 2nd highest in the World. And ticking my bucket list was there too. That completed my 2nd day and back to Palampur.
3rd day: Roaming in and out of Palampur .. local markets, saurabh van, neugal khad, tea gardens especially we visited WHA tea estate. Must visit

Palampur is around 35Km from Kangra airport which serves the region (Palampur, Dharamsala & McLeodganj). The town is a small town but the area near the Araiya Hotel is sparsely populated and lovely.
Compared to Dharamsala & McLeodganj which were crowded, touristy towns, Palampur is bliss.
I would NOT recommend anyone stay in McLeodganj unless you are on a specific mission or a budget. It's absolutely horrid with narrow lanes, crowded markets, and pesky shopkeepers. Dharamsala is a few shades better but for a relaxed and stress free stay with no crowds etc Palampur is much better.

Absolutely majestic views of the Dhauladhar mountain ranges. The tea plantations add to the charm. The town is well placed so that you could easily do a day trip to Mcleodganj / Dharamshala to the north & do para gliding at Bir-Billing, which is to the south. There are many more towns , temples & other sight seeing attractions you could do while Palampur stays your base.
