Cistercian Monastery around the bend is a great place for a daily walk (withdog). View out the front is amazing and so peaceful…way up over the Japan sea looking to Mount Hakodate and the nightly squid fishing boats. Hosts are more than Hosts - helped with every detail needing clarification. Found me a fly fishing guide and shared wonderful food and drinks with me. Location is remote (not far from the bullet train tracks that hiss by - not bothersome) but close to Hakodate, hiking and nice local onsen. Hakodate is definitely a unique Japanese city, very laid-Back, interesting history and on the verge of becoming a major tourist attraction - so visit soon.
