The hotel was a little dated, the food was exceptional, view Very nice though unusual, Staff was Fabulous, Location great, easy access to the rest of the island and a lot to see. We could have stayed five or six days. Aca Beach is the one for us, I'm fine with the jet skies and bouncy boats at another beach for the kids, we like walks and nice views. Our tour guide to Hatenohama was Fabulous. All and all we would defiantly come back to Kumejima and stay at Cypress Hotel again

Certainly at the time we travelled (end Sep / early Oct) everywhere was very quiet with few visitors (when visiting Ara beach for an hour or so, we were alone) but the weather was excellent 29 - 31 degC). Highly recommend renting a car to see the island and reach other beaches. The rocks at Tatami Ishi are very interesting and the very gently sloping, soft white sand beach beyond is beautiful.

Disclaimer - we had a typhoon hit during our stay so couldn’t experience Kumejima at its best. Scenery and beaches are great. Bus route is a bit tricky to work out (and there aren’t heaps of buses) but with planning you can get around the island with some walking. Car hire would be much easier. If there’s a risk of typhoon, probably best to avoid as ferries are closed and many shops etc are too (even on calm days).
