It was very comfortable, beds 10/10, they were very cosy and kept us warm and also include an electric blanket. Two of the 3 of us were from hot and sunny Qld Australia and our son brought us to Kusatsu Onsen at a time when it was very cold and snowing. It was exceptionally wonderful time to visit when it snowed.
The onsens in the hotel were great as well as the ones in the park and town.
Tennis courts and beautiful natural hot spring baths, Kusatsu Now Resort is a 5-minute drive from Kusatsu Onsen Bus Terminal. Rooms have large windows with nature views.

Love the private onsen. Well designed and spacious of the room. Hotel even provide a small bottle of champagne for us. What we see on the website regarding the room and the hotel surrounding is exactly what we see when we there. 👍
We also love the public onsen where there is indoor and outdoor.
Love the unlimited snow crab dinner buffet.
Hotel also has a lot of nice, comfortable resting area.
Love the hotel able to provide transport to bus terminal and Yabatake town.
Konoha Hotel offers hot springs facilities and rooms with free internet access. It features a sake bar and a free shuttle bus to the centre of Kusatsu.

First traditional onsen ryokan experience for me and my Aussie partner. We were absolutely stunned by how elegant and detailed of food was. It was lucky that Tokyo snowed few days ago so we get to see snow covering Kusatsu. We bathed in the onsen admiring how unreal the view was with snow. Brilliant service too but the front desk can barely speak English.

The hotel just cancel our booking without contact us personally, they simply email me which I had missed as it ended up in the junk box. We drove 2 hours from Nagano and when we arrived in the dark, they just leave a message at the door saying the the property is closed due water pump issue! It took us a long time to find another accommodation in Kusatsu as nearly all of them require advance booking!
Providing free WiFi throughout the property, Kusatsu Onsen 326 Yamanoyu Hotel - Vacation STAY 10349v is located in Kusatsu, 46 km from Jigokudani Monkey Park and 14 km from Mt. Kusatsu Shirane.

If you travel often in Japan, this lovely house is exceed my and my family members expectation. When I arrived there, I was so surprised with the facilities inside, they provided us everything we wanted, especially the onsen at the basement.
Very comfortable and all of my family members were very happy to spend a night there

I love this town for its distinctly authentic Japanese feel.
I love this town for its distinctly authentic Japanese feel. It is nestled in the mountains, a gorgeous drive from Tokyo (If you have the time, drive!) Many places to drop in for a foot soak, lots of little shops and restaurants. Prepare to wait in the busy season (which I believe is the fall and winter). This time we stayed in a traditional Japanese hotel with tatami and only futons for sleeping- being from the US, this made the trip especially fun but make sure you are ok with getting up and down from the floor. There are less people who speak English than in the major cities. But if you are comfortable pointing and smiling and trying google translate, it is a beautiful place to visit. Note that people with limited mobility may find the town difficult to navigate (steps and steep hills). Better for adults, but there is a little tropical zoo nearby and the onsen demonstration is fun.

Lovely Onsen town. Simply magical during winter.
Lovely Onsen town. Simply magical during winter. We went in February and it was snowing. Family love it so much that we’re planning to visit for next winter. A lot of private hot spring and delicious food. We had kaiseki for breakfast and dinner at our ryokan. Definitely worth the trip and ain’t too far from Tokyo. Stay a night if possible.

If you want to experience the quintessential Japanese, hot-...
If you want to experience the quintessential Japanese, hot-spring town in the mountains then, Kusatsu is the place for you. It takes a while to get there with the train and bus but if you have the time then I would recommend it. The culture surrounding hot-springs is unique to the Japanese and there is no better place to experience it.
Get early there for a day trip because most buses coming down to the train station stop running around 7 PM.

Kusatsu is a great place for natural hotsprings.
Kusatsu is a great place for natural hotsprings. Great Onsen. Its best to go for relaxation purpose and take a dip in the hotsprings. The places to look out for are 1) Yubatake (center of the town) - Please do visit in the evenings as well when the lights turn ON and make it a beautiful view.
2) Sainokawara Park and Open air Onsen. This is a must visit place to spend good walk in the park and then visit Open air Onsen
JR Bus station is very close to center - Yubatake. So it's just a 5mins walk and also there are round trip bus by JR to all sightseeing spots. Most of the resorts offer shuttle bus service also; so I recommend to check with your resort before booking. This really helped us.
The food is next best thing in Kusatsu. However if you are Vegetarian like us you might find difficulty to find good restaurants. However, there are a couple of Italian restaurants that offer good pasta and pizza which is loaded with vegetables.
One major thing to note is the Bus service from Kusatsu Bus station to Nagonahara Kusatsuguchi. The bus service is not regular; so please check it and plan your outbound trip.

The Yubatake area is picturesque and has many nearby shops with Japanese treats you can take out and eat/drink while sitting and enjoying the ambiance of Yubatake. Lots of traditional Japanese buildings, walkable streets with shops selling souvenirs and Japanese treats. Be sure to take the 10min walk from Yubatake thru Sainokawahara Koen (Park) to the large outdoor hot spring bath Sainokawhara Rotenburo.

The iconic attraction of kusatsu are the hot springs.
The iconic attraction of kusatsu are the hot springs. I have tried various ones, Kusatsu hot springs are relaxing and the the feeling is wonderful.
The food in the town is delicious, I tried Udon with Tempura in some places, it was just delicious.
Don’t forget to try the onsen tamago as a speciality of the town.
Soumeian was absolutely amazing! Everything was perfect. The rooms are huge with so much space. There is a private onsen to use and everything is so clean. The staff are exquisite and pay so much attention to detail. We don't speak Japanese but the staff made sure to do their best to communicate with us. The food provided was so tasty and huge portions.. Everything about the hotel is beautiful.
I would recommend Soumeian in a heartbeat to anyone staying in Kusatsu. It's honestly a bargain for what you get.
Huge property in Kusatsu and highly recommended place of stay if you picked the cottage. Its a bit old property overall but is well equipped with things you need and maintained well. Cottage has floor heating though takes 3-5 hrs for temperature adjustment. We enjoyed the stay overall as the cottage was well equipped and the Hotel approx 1 km away had Onsen, restaurants, swimming pool, bowling alley etc. to make it enjoyable.
One of the things that we really really appreciated about Kirishimaya Ryokan was staff that speak great English! Not that we expect that when we travel but it’s always wonderful to be able to converse naturally in our mother tongue! :) A very homey ryokan, dated but clean and well-run. The onsens were great…and really hot! Also close to Yubatake and pretty much the centre of Kusatsu.
The hotel did a great job in managing a small temporary issue with onsens. My stay at Konoha / Tokinoniwa has been a great and memorable experience. Meals were great value for the money and they even translated the menu (just) for me. Staff at reception spoke excellent English, the other staff members less well, but we could understand each other.
Staff were really helpful kind and respectful, room was big super clean and the whole building was lovely a very lovely Japanese experience, we were absolutely delighted, the Onsen we truly enjoyed , couldn’t ask for a better hotel and location !
They pick up us up and drop as back to and from the bus terminal
We are very grateful
The free shuttle service (to and from bus station and to and from ski resort) was pretty convenient. It's far enough from the center so that you can experience peace and quiet but not too far that the walk becomes a hassle. The breakfast was pretty abundant. and the on site onsen was great!!
Very convenient location. In front of Kusatsu Bus Terminal, short walk to Yubatake and shops and restaurants.
The room we stayed was very clean and comfortable. The Onsen isn’t big but nice and cozy size. I enjoyed all to myself as there was no one else in the bath twice I had been.
The staff was very nice, the hotel really felt like I was in a traditional Japanese hotel. They had their own private onsen along with walking distance to many other onsens. Their game room was very fun with great options of games. My friends and I would definitely come here again.
Very nice Onsen bath, hot bath water is the best I ever expeience in Japan and even better than paid Onsen at town center. Dinner and breakfast are very nice japanese style. Also there are many activity to enjoy in the hotel. Overall great experience.
Excellent for the price! It's a bit out the way compared to Kusatsu center, so you may have to walk a bit. The hostess gave me a nice map to the onsens. It was not completely full when I went, but if it were it might feel a bit crowded.
We really liked private onsens available 24h. Rooms in the main building of the hotel were very nice. The owners are English speakers. The area was very quiet, but at the same time within a short walk to the downtown Kusatsu.
Very kind hotel manager doing a lot of the work. The room was also very very clean! I liked the cute towel baskets we could take with us to the onsen. The breakfast was very balanced and delicious!
The hotel staff were very hospitable, the outdoor onsen bath was very nice and the food was great! The view from the balcony facing the town is beautiful. The room was comfortable and clean.
Very new and modern hotel, tasteful design, including the bathroom
I only tested the public onsen both indoor and indoor, both very clean and enjoyable
Fancy roof top terrace
Very quiet
The room was very big and clean
The public bath was incredible and relaxing.
Good location, near the main streets of kusatsu onsen.
Also, the pickup service at the bus station is a plus
