The best advice I can give is find where the biggest crowds are massed, all trying to impress deer with the same rice crackers that everyone else is trying to feed them, then pick a direction and walk away from them. There is so much more to the park: primeval forests, ancient stone pathways leading to temples and small villages older than most of our own countries, hidden pockets of lost time. It is hard to explain how it feels to not have another human being in sight, finding yourself passing stone idols carved by people hundreds of years ago, only to see a deer eating moss from the base of said idol that stops chewing to literally bow to you. Of course you bow back and scramble in your bag for some kind of treat to offer your new best friend (I recommend unsalted pretzel sticks, the deer hate plain rice crackers as much as we do at this point) and then having it gently eat from the palm of your hand, before you both again swap polite bows and go on your merry way. Then you hear a crow sing from the ancient forest behind you, and you just know: this is pretty cool.

Nice place, parks, plenty of temples, huge Buddha statues, a little ride by train and you can see the oldest still standing wooden building in the world!
And of course the deer! Feeding the deer with the deer cookies is fun and a little scary as they are quite bold and can pull and push you a bit.
Good food available as well.

There’s a lot to see in Nara but it is quite spread out. Buses are easy to use though. Taxis can get busy - couldn’t get a booking.
There are two amazing restaurants at the bus station.
And there’s a seismic company building that is really interesting, and even has a great view from the top.

Nara is my favorite city in Japan, so far.
Nara is my favorite city in Japan, so far. It’s small but full of charm, it’s got plenty of stores and restaurants, there is a nice community surrounding it.
The national museum, the craft museum, and my favorite the kasugataisha museum. There is a bus #78 that will take you directly here.
Very clean, they put effort into it keeping the hotel clean, organized, and well presented.
Staff are very receptive and helpful.
Beds (twin room) were comfortable, clean, crisp, and warm.
Location is excellent. Walking distance to both JR Nara and Kintetsu Nara stations.
Easy access to the bus to go uphill to the main historical sites. Walking would be about 10 minutes to Kohfukuji.
Restaurants around the corner on Sanjyo street in front of JR Nara.
A pleasant walk to the historical Nakamura and the shopping street.
The location in Naramachi is quaint, very central and surrounded by restaurants, old traditional merchant houses and narrow streets. The covered market streets is also just minutes on foot away. You are at Nara Park very quickly. We esspecially liked that the hotel offers 40min. of private onsen time, so that you can go to the bath as a couple. We also had a shower/tub in the room and the western style matresses in the tatami room were very comfortable! Staff was very attentive and friendly!.
Great economical hotel. Booked last minute. Recommend the buffet breakfast which had both western and Japanese offerings. Hotel is located across from the JR Nara station which was great for access. 7-Eleven is just down the street, and restaurants nearby. Nara has a lot to see and do. Being right off the train, this could be a good choice for those looking for a hub to make day trips from. Washers and dryers are available for a small fee in the hotel (400¥).
The location was amazing!! Though it’s quite far from a station, getting to it is worth it. There are buses that run near the hotel, and taxis at the station. But if you don’t have much luggage it’s a very pleasant walk to the hotel. I loved seeing the deer in the morning! And the staff was just amazing, so helpful in assisting me with my bags, explaining the area, and helping me work out how to get to JR Nara station.
Our stay at ANDO HOTEL NARA was exceptional. This property is the perfect mix between beautiful facilities, amazing food and great service. The staff was very lovely and attentive and did everything to make our stay perfect. The food at the restaurant was some of the best food we had during our trip in Japan. It's definitely worth booking the panoramic view rooms that offer a beautiful view over the city.
Location is very convenient, just a few steps from Nara JR station exit. You can use overhead passage too to get to the hotel.
The room is very spacious by Japanese standards.
I would rate beds as 10/10 in terms of comfort, but DH rated it 7/10 because it was too firm for him.
We had a lovely view over the city and conservatory.
The hotel is very close to Nara Park and it's right in the shopping and restaurant area. The staff were lovely and the room was fine (but very small, which we expected). Breakfast was simple but adequate. It's quite a walk (20 mins) from JR Nara station but very close to the other rail line.
Rooms, location, and staff are exceptional. One of the best hotels I have stayed at in a long time. The proximity to other Nara attractions and small shops to wander around in is perfect. The hotel also has an impressive history that is well displayed. I highly recommend this hotel.
the Location couldn't be more convenient if you're only staying for a short while. the hotel is directly connected to nara station.
you can see the trains from your room (luckily you cannot hear them).
Ideal if you're travelling the country by train on a budget.
Very clean as we have to take off our shoes and no shoes are allowed in the hotel., the public bath is amazing. There are 3 different spots to dip in. The room is a bit small but comfortable. Perfect location as it is close to the station also to the Nara Park.
Very nice hotel in a great location (literally 2 minutes from Kintetsu-Nara station and within easy walking distance of all the main Nara attractions). The staff were very helpful and spoke good English. We only stayed one night but we were very comfortable.
I loved every single thing from this hotel. From the staff, to the room, to the onsen, to the location. This Truly the Japanese experience to its finest. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Nara for a day trip.
Location was perfect being right next to the station, and not a far walk to the Nara park area and some amazing restaurants and bars along the way. Staff were extremely helpful and I couldn’t recommend this hotel enough.
The hotel is located just next to the train station and on the other side of the stqtion is the main street that goes up to Nara park.
The staff where really nice, the food was amazing and the onsen was nice.
location near park & restaurants, staff, onsens, mats on floor were surprisingly comfortable, shower great (hot & excellent pressure), staff changed room from living to sleeping automatically, view of pagoda
Location was fantastic, 2 minute walk to good restaurants and a short distance to walk to Nara Deer park and other locations. The hotel is beautiful and the view from the room was stunning.
The hotel is at the exit of the station, and the Nara deer park is 15 min walk from the hotel. A very traditional Japanese hospitality experience. The Onsen and the amenities are very good.
Great location. Newer hotel with modern facilities. Had really nice amenities available in the lobby . Close to shopping and good restaurant options. Not too far from main park area.
