Transport wasn't ideal at this time of year but if you timed the buses right you could see a lot of Shodoshima island in a few days. It was great being surrounded by olive and orange groves. It had a very Mediterranean feel to it. From my resort I only had to cross the road to Olive Park and it's many attractions. A lovely coffee shop, aptly called Dilly Dally, was only a few doors away. I visited the site of the movie "24 eyes", Angel Road, Olive Park and strolled along various beaches. A lovely place to wind down after Tokyo. I mainly cooked for myself but found a coffee shop that did lovely gluten free muffins near Angel Road.MARGARETIreland - 10Scored 10

Nice visit to the soya sauce production. We also visited the olive tree park. In all places we visited people were very welcoming. We could have visited other areas of the island. People are kind and helpful (even when they hardly speak English). Transportation is reliable and connection well planned between buses and boats. Highly recommended!ClaudiaBelgium - 8.0Scored 8.0
The beach was quite pretty for Japan.
The beach was quite pretty for Japan. But if you expect beaches like in Costa Rica you'll be disappointed. The island has everything from beach to deep forests and amazing views. I would recommend to rent a car to get across the island and visit the different spots.IIknimeSwitzerland - 8.0Scored 8.0
So much gorgeous nature.
So much gorgeous nature. People were super kind and generous. Difficult without a car unless you coordinate your pre plan with the bus schedules or hitchhike. The seasonal bus to the gorge only starts 3 days after I left so I had to hitchhike with I dislike. Not enough English at the info centre so be ready with an online translator. I stayed 1.5 days but would recommend as long as you can stay. I tried to go from Naoshima to Teshima to Shodoshima but it was too complex and expensive. Stay at Sea Tiger Island Inn if you can plan your route in advance.

Shodoshima is famous for producing good quality soy source and olive oil. Some factories are open to public to view. People are friendly and helpful. They have 88 temples and shrines pilgrimage trail, a smaller version of the Shikoku's 88 "Ohenro" route which is too massive to complete. Shodoshima's pilgrimage trail is about 160km in all. There are good ferry connections between the Honshu main land and the island which has several small ports.

It is a beautiful island- a perfect getaway from the bustle of the city. It's great if you want to chill out in a natural setting. The roads through and around the mountains and seas are just perfect for cycling. However, there aren't a lot of sightseeing attractions, hence it's not the best place to visit if your main purpose is sightseeing.
