Great place to unwind from the hustle and bustle of major cities in Japan, also a perfect jumping-off point for exploring islands in the Seto Inland Sea. It’s a bit sleepy and not tourist oriented, but that’s part of the charm. Plus, some of the best udon i’ve ever had.

Takamatsu is a wonderful city to explore, and it has famous sites such as Ritsurin Garden and Yashima Temple. It has lots of options for shopping and eating, and beautiful views from many locations. There's also an opportunity to take Udon making class and visit nearby islands. Udon and other local delicacies are easy to find and excellent.

Takamatsu - like the rest of Shikoku - is chronically overlooked by most tourists it Japan in favor of the traditional ‘Big Name’ places like Osaka & Kyoto, but that doesn’t make it any less deserving of your visitation. On the contrary, the fact there are relatively few tourists means you can enjoy it all to yourself!
For one, it’s easily accessible. Arriving from Okayama on the Shinkansen, take the Marine Liner and you’ll be there in an hour. Even better, the ride is amazing with the views from the Seto Sea bridges that you cross giving you phenomenal views of the waters and islands between Honshu & Shikoku.
Once you arrive, you’ll find everything is nearby: the compact city center means that most attractions are easily & quickly accessible, together with plentiful shopping & dining areas.
But best of all is the beauty you’ll find here: The waves of the sea lapping the shore, the views for miles around from the top of the Icon Tower, nearby islands you can explore with a short boat ride, and cultural attractions like Shikoku Village and Ritsurin Koen that easily rival anything you can find in Kyoto.
Takamatsu is a hidden gem that just happens to be on the side of Japan where tourists don’t tread. But as lamentable as it is that it doesn’t get its deserved recognition, the absence of tourists is a good thing in that you can enjoy it without having to worry about crowds!

The 'Ritsurin Garden' is probably the finest garden in Japan and was my first 'target'. Although I arrived at 09:00 and spent over 4-hrs in the Garden, I only managed to take in the South Garden. I really should have allowed some extra time to complete the North Garden as well but tiredness and the need to continue on to other destinations prevailed. Please note that the garden opens at sunrise throughout the year; in September that means they open at 05:30am! Had I known that, I would headed there much earlier.
My second 'target' in visiting Takamatsu was to visit the latter temples (Temples 78 ~ 87) on the Shikoku Pilgrimage. Most of these (as well as Ritsurin Garden) are fairly accessible from the various lines of the Kotoden Electric Railway, so I would recommend purchasing day passes for frequent travel on the Kotoden.

Naoshima, Teshima, Ritsin Garden, Takamatsu Castle are the sites to see in town and there are others in town as well. Surprisely, every major European designer has a store in this town as well. And there are other interesting towns nearby. Kurashiki and Kotahira are steeped in tradition with not a lot if Western travelers.

We had a lot of fun driving over the huge bridges to get there, and were so surprised at the size of this town/city! It was a lot bigger than expected and took some time to actually reach the hotel! This isn't really reflected in the map! We could have stayed much longer to enjoy the scenery and city but hadn't planned it in itinerary. So, I can't comment well on what it has to offer as we were time poor. But, driving thru and staying for a night was a very enjoyable experience using both bridges to the island! A lovely area.
We enjoyed the central location, Once we exited Takamatsu Station, we could see the hotel. There was a covered walkaway - with buses accessibility and ferry terminals nearby. The station had a number of cafes and food eateries.
The hotel had a pretty busy lobby - with a number of tour buses checking in. The lobby area has a pretty good bakery - we had some pastries whilst waiting for check-in.
The room was a comfortable size. Breakfast was good - with a wider spread of Japanese dishes as well as some international food.
good (if industrial) view from the room, conveniently near to a local train station & shops, with easy stroll to the harbor and the ferry terminal... the neighborhood, though somewhat seedy, had an interesting warehouse-cum-fishing district shita-machi style atmosphere...
also, the hotel has a good selection of complementary food & drinks and a rather tasty breakfast.... the specialty curry was particularly good.
The facilities are excellent. The capsule is big enough. Even though i was staying in a capsule, i didn't feel at all deprived or missing out by not staying in hotel room.
The place is absolutely clean. Which shows how hard and diligent the staffs work to keep it clean and immaculate everyday. Wifi internet is strong. Fridge, microwave, dining room available for use on our floor. What more does anyone need?
Great resort location. Great place for Onsen. Be sure to try the outdoor onsen. Be sure to choose the breakfast option and try their dinner one night of your stay. There's limited public location and the hotel is located at the end of a bus route to Takamatsu. It takes about 55 minutes to get to Takamatsu by bus. Better to have a car to stay at this place. It's a great jump-off point for a driving tour.
We stayed at the Dormy Inn in Kurashiki a few days ago and found that to be very good also. The breakfast buffet is super! Fresh cooked, with a large selection of items, especially fresh fruit which is not common in our experience. The onsen is so relaxing and clean. This is a very nice hotel at this price point. Thank you.
The room was very clean, all amenities available for the period of stay, large space to accommodate group of 4.
Located very near to local train station, market and stores.
Emails and requests were prompt replied all times.
I definitely recommend this place when stay in Takamatsu.
Host was very nice and helpful. And despite outward cosmetic look of the place, the room itself had all the essentials needed for a comfortable stay and restful night. Location is also conveniently within a 2-minute walking distance from Takamatsu station.
Comfortable bed.
Clean and convenient room.
Good coffee (capsule coffee machine in the room).
Easy access to convenient stores and shopping streets with restaurants.
Walking distance from Takamatsu station and port.
Walking distance from Ritsurin Park.
Very comfortable business hotel, just beside Takamatsu station with an excellent Udon restaurant nearby.
It is a business hotel with reasonably priced rooms. The owner is super kind and willing to help beside the language gap.
I would recommend it.
The buffet breakfast was excellent and had plenty of vegetarian options. The hotel was convenient for Takamatsu Station and the Ferry port. The room was clean and the staff was helpful when we needed to store our bags.
Just a 5 minute walk away from Takamatsu Station, it's a well-stocked hotel with a good breakfast selection. Check-In was easy and you could borrow an additional pillow of your choice.
Perfect Japanese home with breakfast delivered every morning! Easy walk, along the bay, from and to the Takamatsu Train Station, JR Hotel Restaurants and Takamatsu Castle Park.
15 minutes walking from Takamatsu station. I stayed in the annex hotel, which was pretty nice. Honest price. It has a public bath and a smoking room inside.
Real vintage capsule hotel right in center of Takamatsu. The onsen is really nice, the whole place is very efficient. The capsule have a great 80’s feeling.
