If we ever come to Tanabe again, we will be sure to stay longer to enjoy all that there is to do there. Having visited Japan so many times, this trip was probably the best of all. I followed the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage and experienced both the people, the culture and the religion of ancient Japan. I spent in total about 4 days walking and all of the accommodations (family run b&b and a hot spring hotel) was all very clean, with tasty food and friendly people. A great little town, and ideal jumping-off point for the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage. The pub quarter was a fun place to get a drink and dinner: great Tako Yaki. Both the Tanabe Tourist Information Centre staff and the Kumano Kodo Travel staff were impeccably professional and helpful in making arrangements for the pilgrimage walk. Simon was so helpful with information about the Kumano Kodo. He helped me figure out a new plan for my hike the next day to work around the weather. He picked me up from Tanabe and dropped me at the trailhead the next morning.
