Staff was able to provide information clearly and was fluent in English. He was also very kind to pick us up from the train station for free. He also provided suggestions for sight seeing and restaurants. Highly recommend the accommodation due to the service and facilities.

Tanabe was our starting point for our Kumano Kodo trek so we stayed in Tanabe only one day not realizing how much there is to do in Tanabe. If we ever come to Tanabe again, we will be sure to stay longer to enjoy all that there is to do there. I think we could have stayed a whole week if we weren't going on our trek.

Having visited Japan so many times, this trip was probably the best of all. I followed the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage and experienced both the people, the culture and the religion of ancient Japan. I spent in total about 4 days walking and all of the accommodations (family run b&b and a hot spring hotel) was all very clean, with tasty food and friendly people. I'd love to go back again and experience the other less famous trails of the same region.

A great little town, and ideal jumping-off point for the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage. The pub quarter was a fun place to get a drink and dinner: great Tako Yaki. Both the Tanabe Tourist Information Centre staff and the Kumano Kodo Travel staff were impeccably professional and helpful in making arrangements for the pilgrimage walk. Cannot rate their quality of service highly enough.

Loved the traditional tatami mats and futon on the floor with beautiful lantern lights in the room, and then a seperate area with a couch and kitchenette - all in the cutest little village with an amazing view! Simon was so helpful with information about the Kumano Kodo. He helped me figure out a new plan for my hike the next day to work around the weather. He picked me up from Tanabe and dropped me at the trailhead the next morning.

This is one of the nicest guest houses we’ve ever stayed in! The hosts are friendly, welcoming, and very helpful with local travel tips; the views are spectacular; the food is a delicious mix of French and Japanese dishes and delicacies, prepared with fresh, local ingredients; and the setting is incredibly peaceful and relaxing. We felt so well cared for and had a wonderful holiday. I can’t wait to go back! Highly recommended.

I only stayed for one night but I wish I stayed for another. I really enjoyed staying here. The room was the perfect size for a solo traveler and the facilities were clean. The owner was very helpful and nice. I came very late and she waited till I came to check me in and also showed me where I should go and because I was doing the Kumano Kodo she gave me some tips on how to get there. The cake was also very delicious!

Location super handy. The highlight was Aki (I hope I haven't butchered your name), who was such a tremendously helpful soul. He basically planned my route for me to walk the Kumano Kodo, including making a phone call for me, which would have been difficult as I have no Japanese, nor international sim. He even continued to answer questions for me after I checked out! What a star.

A lovely, comfortable, clean, and cozy place in great location when walking the kumano kodo- The beds are comfortable, the shower has good strong and warm water pressure. The house was very well equipped with everything we needed. Surrounded by rice fields and the lovely village. The owner is a great cook, her food was delicious. She was very kind and helpful.

Aki was a great host for my time in Tanabe City, helping me to plan my Kumano Kodo trek, and picking me up from the bus station! He even showed me the best Yokohama-style ramen. I loved my stay there so much that I returned after my trek to enjoy a few more peaceful days in Tanabe with great sleep at night. I had the best sleep of my whole trip there!

Very new and valuable hotel. Just 5 minutes walking distance to the train station and restaurant area. Next to the railway, but quiet enough to have a good sleep. The room is spacious based on Japanese standards. A simple breakfast is a plus. Perfect for visitors transferring to Kumano Kodo. There are quite a few Japanese business travelers as well.

Very welcoming Japanese-French couple. The house is absolutely beautiful and you can see in the small details how much love they put in preparing the house for guests. Food is awesome, very interesting mix of Japanese and French traditional receipees. Ideally located on the Kumano Kodo trail, at the entrance of Takahara village.

Great value! The house is so large and well facilitated it can probably easily host 10 people but is still reasonably priced for just two people. They provided so much food and drink. All freshly sourced from local regions. Everything was so tasty! One of the best stays during our three-week vacation in Japan.

Location is good - a few minutes walk from Tanabe station. We arrived late and left early so didn't have much time there but it was fine, a standard small ryokan. The proprietor communicated well with us and was helpful when we arrived and then left us on our own.

Super nice place, I loved it. You can easily start the Kumano Kodo from there. The owner is a great guy. He offered to pick me up from Tanabe station and gave me a ride to a supermarket so I could get vegan food. Thanks again! 🙏 I would def stay there again.
