It was a nice place to stop for a few days before heading back to Tokyo.
Great places to eat and beautiful walks around the lake.
There is a bathhouse not to far from the hotel but they do not allow tattoos- no exceptions.

This is a beautiful area full of nature and amazing views.
This is a beautiful area full of nature and amazing views. I went in October so out of the main season and it was nice and quiet with not many visitors around.
Renting a Swan boat and feeding the ducks was great fun!
I couldn't find a single vegetarian restaurant in town so something to be aware of if you don't eat meat or fish.
Just be aware of the army base from which you can hear artillery fire every day. It's loud and a little disconcerting!
I think Yamanakako is less touristy than Kawaguchiko which for me is a good thing.

It's a great area if you like outdoorsy activities.
It's a great area if you like outdoorsy activities. There's several hiking trails around the Lake, which are well marked and reward you with an awesome view of Fujisan when you get to the destination. The trails up to Mt Takazasu and Mt Myojin are good and take in the Panorama-Dei spot which is popolar for viewing Fujisan. All-day parking is available at Yamanakako Community Plaza Kirara, and the trailheads are 20-30min walk away from there.
There is also a very nice 15km cycling path around the Lake, which is a very long but pleasant walk. If you're not outdoorsy, then the options are more limited to the nice restaurants, and there are high end and nice lower-priced options (Denny's, Cafe Gusto). There are also various onsen and sento in the town.

Pros - Mt Fuji is a glory to see so close up and the clouds and the skyline around the mountain were in a constant dance of change - breathtaking. The reflections of the sunset clouds on the lake were were dazzling. The freshness of the pristine air. The lack of high humidity. The sense of well-being offered by the area. The vehicles stopped at zebra crossings which isn't always the case in certain cities.
Cons - At times we have to walk on the road within half a metre of passing vehicles. That could have possible unwanted outcomes.

Yamanashi in general was gorgeous.
Yamanashi in general was gorgeous. We stayed at Yamanakako and it was a great place to stay at to get away from the stressful work environment in the city. We didn't get to eat at any local restaurants since we were too busy exploring the surrounding areas but you won't be left wanting for food options since everywhere you go, there's a restaurant nearby and they all looked so good. I think it would be more convenient if you travel around by car since the bus fare can get a little expensive if you're traveling far.

Yamanakako is a great place for people that don't like...
Yamanakako is a great place for people that don't like crowded locations. You can calmly cruise on your car around the lake, watch the swans, grab a coffee at one of several scenic cafes. You can take a mini-swan-boat for a spin in a small group while feeding swans and big fishes or take a mega-swan "pleasure boat" that takes you across the lake. Or you can take a hippo amphibian bus that will drive you right into the lake. Or you can just park your car and walk into the lake with a gorgeous view of Fuji with reflection. Dramatic scenery guaranteed. The only thing you won't see is a fancy infrastructure. There are some nice cafe's but many places look run down. Surprising though, considering how beautiful the nature is around.
Really a nice stay. When I got lost at night, the owner drived me to the hotel after a phone call, which helped me a lot. Also invited me to have dinner in the hall, where we had a nice chat together.
The view from the room is indeed gorgeous. Perfect view of Mount Fuji.
Since I told the owner my schedule, he cared about me so much, who even gave me a morning call in case I would miss the bus. So kind of him. The next day the owner also drived me to a place quite far. Such a nice guy.
The hotel was situated right on Lake Yamanaka. We had a room with a view to the lake which was absolutely beautiful in the morning. There is free parking for hotel guests. Across from the hotel, you can rent bikes to cycle around the lake (14 km) and gives various views of Mt. Fuji. I also walked around the lake the following morning. Soaking in the communal bath at the end of an active day is good.
The thermal baths were fantastic. Breakfast and dinner were traditional Japanese cuisine, which I appreciated experiencing as an American. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The location was excellent - the bus stop is right in front of the hotel. We got a clear view of Mt. Fuji on the second morning from our balcony!
The onsen was amazing. We also had a view on the Mont Fuji from our bedroom. Our room was little old - which makes sense as the hotel celebrated its 60 years anniversary. The hotel staff was so kind that it compensated our stay making it very enjoyable. We highly recommend the hotel.
Great location, right on the lake with a perfect view of Mt Fuji (weather permitting, of course). Shared bathrooms were very clean. Owner gave me a nice tour of the place and made sure that knew where everything that I needed was. It’s very close to a 7-11 for food.
The Mt Fuji view is the best. I came back to stay in winter because I couldn't match the dates in summer last year. Host Daizen was friendly and responsive but not around when we stayed. He provided amenities to make the winter less cold. Very value for money.
Firstly the room is not that expensive. We love the room which was Mt Fuji facing. The room is so spacious that you could have at least 5 ppl to live in. The onsen can be used by yourself by locking the door (the personnel said). It is a beautiful place.
Nice relaxing stay with a view of Mt Fuji. I know only a few phrases in Japanese and the staff was so patient with me and we communicated with a google translator app. I love that we were able to rent out a BBQ area to grill our own food for dinner.
Guesthouse is so comfortable, cozy and warm. Feels like a home. The host are very friendly, helpful and speak English very well. They prepared many information useful for tourists around Yamanakako lake. Would love to visit again.
On site onsen was amazing, food options in hotel good (buffet), clean towels everyday, great views of lake and Fuji nearby. Top tip - use the onsen early afternoon when it opens and you may get it to yourself!
My second time stay here. Family run hotel, the hosts treat me like their friends. Drove me to scenic spots to view Fuji. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and plentiful. Excellent value for money
