We decided to stay in Ban Phe to break up a long journey. It is not a tourist town and there is not a great deal to do. It is a busy little port and geared up mainly for trips to Koh Samet island which is beautiful but very busy.AAnonymous - 10Scored 10

Ban Phe is the departure port for a 10 minute fast ferry ride to Koh Samed. The departure point is a hub of the area and is very touristy. There is a lot of accommodation nearby if needed or stay on Koh Samed quite easily.

BAN PHE IS SMALL and there is very little to do.
BAN PHE IS SMALL and there is very little to do. It is really only there to service fishing boats and the ferries to Koh Samet. The beach is really dirty. The beach of Mae Rumphaeng on the other side of the headland is the attraction, and as there's no direct transport from Ban Phe to the beach (taxi mafia stops this any time someone enterprising tries to fill the clearly available opportunity), you should stay on the beach where there is a lot of accommodation available along the beach road. Best way to get around is to rent a moped or a moped with sidecar. Mae Rumphaeng is now cleaned weekly, so although there is always a little debris on the beach, it is significantly cleaner than the beaches in other parts of this coast, and the water quality is much better than Jomtien. The beach also slopes very gently so you can go out a long way and still be waist deep, so safe for kids. Mad with Thais on holiday weekends but during the week very relaxed. plenty of eating and drinking places along the Ban Phe end of the beach

The beds were medium hard so good for your back - soft beds are not good.
