NH Collection Santiago de Compostela, hotel in Santiago de Compostela

This design hotel is in a quiet area, a 13-minute walk from Obradoiro Square and the Cathedral. It offers free WiFi, an indoor swimming pool, and a seasonal outdoor swimming pool.

Good afternoon I never managed to visit this hotel. but I can’t pass by and want to leave a review. I contacted the hotel manager in advance with a request to understand my situation, cancel the reservation and reimburse part of the amount paid. We planned a 3-day vacation with our family, but a few days before I had a threatened miscarriage, which affected the possibility of the trip. This is an unpleasant event for our family and the doctor warned about the dangers of traveling long distances. The manager promised to get in touch with me, but then I just received a message that canceling my reservation cost me 840 euros and not a single message from her. I think this is absolutely incorrect and disrespectful towards the client

Parador de Santiago - Hostal Reis Catolicos, hotel in Santiago de Compostela

Parador de Santiago - Hostal Reis Catolicos is set in a beautiful 15th-century building next to Santiago’s famous cathedral.

Stunning building with beautiful architecture. HOWEVER, if you want to be able to sleep, you may want to reconsider. A few minutes after arrows realised our room was close to pedestrians and a bagpipe player, so we asked for a quieter room( we had just finished a 7 day walk, and as an older couple, we’re very tired). We were advised the only quieter room was a junior suite and considerably more expensive, but took it . Later that night a techno type concert started and continued until 2am. I pitied anyone in a room closer as I couldn’t fall asleep at all. We noted the stage was dismantled the next morning so made no comment ( the stage was in the piazza and facing the hotel). By late afternoon the stage was re-erected and it was a repeat of the night before! I rang reception at 1am to be assured it was finishing earlier than the night before. Again no sleep till after 1:30am. On check out I raised this with the staff and queried why we weren’t told that paying for a more expensive room was not going to help with this noise, the only comment was ‘sorry’. Very, very disappointing and very misleading on their part.

FAQ about holiday rentals in Santiago de Compostela

A Valuable City with Rich History

The city of Santiago de Compostela is the capital of Galicia and the place where the Apostle St. James is buried. The city’s Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its distinguished old monuments around the Cathedral and the tomb of St. James.

Made of granite, the spectacular Baroque facade of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela features massive bell towers and statues of St. James. The Obradoiro facade of the Cathedral is one of the most exceptional examples of the Spanish Baroque period.

Surrounded by magnificent buildings, the monumental square of Plaza do Obradoiro is one of the most historic squares in the world and the heart of Santiago. You can stay in one of the hotels, guest houses or apartments Booking.com offers nearby this majestic square.

The final destination of the Medieval pilgrimage route (El Camino de Santiago), this city is the best place to enjoy fresh fish and traditional Galician bread. Galicia is the seafood capital of Spain and the right place to savor Salpicón de Mar (seafood salad) and Pulpo á Feira (octopus cooked with salt).

The Christian pilgrimage route of the Way of St. James passes by Santiago de Compostela Airport, which is 16 km away from Galicia’s capital.

Santiago de Compostela is a nice place to visit but way more crowded than I anticipated. Suggest pre booking tickets to things you want to see. The cathedral and museum was wonderful. Also, suggest reviewing restaurant options and make reservations early for popular places. And pre-arrange a taxi two days prior to airport departure. If arriving by bus also pre-arrange a taxi.

We enjoyed visiting the cathedral and the surrounding old town. Also seeing the steady stream of pilgrims arriving elated at the main square in front of the cathedral. We had hoped to see the priests swinging the censor during mass, but this apparently only happens on certain days of the year. I think that 2-3 days is enough to see the sights.

Excellent quality for this price! The hotel is not in Santiago de Compostella but in a suburb. That makes parking very easy and the rooms with uneven numbers have a lovely country and pool view. A bus to the old town for €1 passes by the hotel. If you arrive on a sunday you MUST give them your arrival time so they can receive you, because then they are closed but will be there to meet you. Maybe that's only out of season, I was there in november, but that I don't know. Everybody working there is very friendly and helpfull.

Ideal location for Santiago old town. Walking distance to all bars, restaurants, shops and sights. The entrance to the hotel is on a narrow street and the reception on the third floor (lift available). Once in the hotel it is a lot bigger than first impressions. Boutique is a good description. Breakfast was good value but limited choice. Parked motorcycle in nearby pay car park,(Praza de Galicia), about 13 Euros per day, which was undercover and 1 minutes walk away.

The breakfast was well worth it. We were served a delicious set of eggs, with bread and pastries along with our choice of coffee or tea. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. They gave good recommendations and paid parking is right next door with free parking accessible within a ten minute walking range. We have travelled to many parts of Spain and of all the hostels and airbnbs we have tried, this location topped it all.

I felt very welcome by Julio and Jhuly from the moment I step into their beautiful place. I felt like at home. They personally cooked and served breakfast for me the next morning and dedicated time to have a conversation, answer all my questions about the area and gave very nice recommendations about what to do in Galicia. Looking forward to seeing my “new family” in Spain when I get back to walk the Camino de Santiago next year.

Given the choice of hotels in Santiago de Compostela, this is one of the best - but, in all fairness, its a pretty generic hotel from the NH Collection - AC worked efficiently - Relatively no noise from other guestrooms, and no noise at all from the outside - Free parking on the grounds of the hotel - Good choice of international TV channels - Incredibly attentive and welcoming staff in the bar

The locations is great, close to the train station and the old town, and the hostel is very easy to find and with elevator (Quite big for buildings in Spain).
