It's a beautiful, elegant hotel, with services that totally match the category. My room was large and comfortable, the hotel staff was kind, welcoming and professional, the breakfast exceptional.
7 minutes walking from the train station, a Family mart less then 5 minutes from the hotel and a lot of restaurants within 10 to 20 minutes walking from the hotel, plus the hotel itself has 2 restaurants, if I am not wrong.
They include for their guest a visit to a nearby famous onsen (around 20 minutes with a shuttle).

Booked a room for 4 but was given a twin room plus 2 extra beds. The room itself was already not too big and after putting in 2 extra beds, make it even smaller. Hardly any space to walk or to open our luggage bags.

We stayed in the superior twin room, which was really spacious and even came with a washing machine and miniature kitchen. The restaurant is inside a former bank. The restrooms are behind the former safe door.

I stayed in a Green Tea themed room, which looked and felt premium. The room was spacious and luxurious.
You get free access to the nearby fitness center with a gym and a swimming pool.

Matsumoto castle was lovely to see at night. The Yayoi Kusama exhibition at the Matsumoto City Museum of Art is permanent and the outside is gorgeous but the exhibit itself was disappointingly small compared to the one in Tokyo. My favourite is the temporary exhibit of the artworks of Yasuka Sudou, an artist who died young of cancer at the age of 30. Her works interplay light and darkness and are technically impressive and emotionally touching.

We stayed at Hotel Kagetsu which is just a few minutes walk from the castle. The castle is def worth a visit. If you go to the top there are very steep stairs. We ate at two local restaurants. I can recommend the tiny tonkatsu restaurant which is just 50m down the road from the hotel. A taxi from the station takes 10 mins and costs 1000 yen.

The castle is beautiful, the local shopping streets are lovely and had variety. The Matsumoto City Museum of Art is fantastic for Yayoi Kusama lovers.
A nice quiet city after the throng of Tokyo, slower paced.

Good place to stay for access to the mountains.
Good place to stay for access to the mountains. The town is small but has good facilities including some big shops. There are a few restaurants but many close early and some are not easily accessible for people who don’t speak Japanese

A city to stay in for day trips!
A city to stay in for day trips! Matsumoto is welcoming and kind. Not too much to do in the city itself (I think one day is enough). we were in Matsumoto for 3 nights, on the first day came from Alpine route, on the second day we went to Kamikochi, on the third day to Kiso Valley. the 4th day was super rainy - was good for a museum + shopping mall + movie + massage. Enjoy!

Matsumoto is a mid-size city with several attractions, with its castle being the most famous. Areas around the castle are great for walking, while a bit further away are several parks that offer nice walks and views of the city and surrounding mountains. There are several areas with restaurants and cafes that are lively in the evening, including near the main train station. If you have a car, places to visit near the city include the Venus Line, a popular mountain drive offering fantastic vistas when the weather is good, and Kamikochi with its beautiful view of Japan's Alps, as well as historic small towns such as Narai-juki and Hida Takayama.
The hotel is located next to the station, so it is very easy to get there. We could see the station from our room, but did not hear the trains. The room is clean and we had space for our backpacks and to hang some clothes. The beds are comfortable and soft. The bathroom was clean and we had a bath which was nice. There is also a Japanese bath on the top floor which you can use if your staying at the hotel. From the hotel it is approximately 15 minutes to get to Matsumoto Castle. There are convenience stores and restaurants nearby.
the hotel is in a perfect location, 5 minutes walk from Matsumoto station with many connivence stores next to it. the reception was extremely kind, offering free drinks in happy hour every evening. the best part about the hotel is the bath house and amenities. a lot of free amenities and comfortable pajamas offered. and the bath house was so peaceful. next to the bath house your could find a free massage chair that is a great touch. comfortable stay with a spacious room and a luxurious bathtub.
This is a very cosy small hostel located 20 min walk and 10 min bus ride from Matsumoto station. Matsumoto castle is a 5-10 min walk and there are many restaurants in the area. It is especially suitable for people who like to cook themselves. The kitchen is very clean and well-stocked with even a little toaster oven. The staff is super friendly and helped us call car rentals and restaurants when not speaking Japanese was an issue
This hotel looked a little too old for my liking, but I booked at the last minute and the price was good. The location is where this place shines though, because it's right across the street from Matsumoto station, and also in walking distance to Matsumoto castle.
Though the room was a little old, it was clean and the check in service was very easy and friendly.
Hotel is conveniently located near to the Castle and to the famous streets in Matsumoto. In 20 mins walking you can be in the train station. Rooms are big for Japanese standards, and beds very Conformable Breakfast is very complete with variety of options. The public baths are also good and convenient. Front desk team is very helpful and speaks good english
Loved the cleanliness, the room amenities (clothing steamer/dryer was cool), the proximity to subway...and the breakfast was the BEST of all the hotels we had stayed at while in Japan (a total of 7). Next time we go to Nagano, this is the hotel we will come back to!!
The location of the hotel is convenient, close to the station (then again, most hotels are in that area). The property is somewhat old but well maintained with very nice staff. It has a sento (Japanese communal bath) on the top floor, which is a nice plus to relax.
The hotel was so close to Matsumoto station and some great eating spots. Worth the stay for the convenience to the station alone. The staff were friendly and were able to store our luggage until check in time. The price was excellent. I would stay here again.
Everything about this hotel was exceptional. The location was near the station, the room is perfect! Breakfast was fulfilling, internet speed was great. Overall it was a great place to stay :) I will want to go stay there when I go back to Matsumoto ;)
1. The hotel is less than 5 minutes away from the Matsumoto Station.
2. The location is safe.
3. The hotel is clean and organised. The room has basic essentials such as water boiler, complimentary drinking water, tea, toiletries and clean towels.
It is a small hotel with just a few rooms. Excellent location between the train station and the castle. The room is big, and we enjoyed the common room where you can get coffee, hot water and meet other travelers if you wish.
The location is great. It is near JR Matsumoto station. There are many convenient stores, restaurants and supermarkets near the hotel.
The staff are friendly and helpful. The room is clean. The breakfast is very delicious.
Our stay in this ryokan was a very pleasant experience. The hosts were helpful and friendly. Traditional Japanese room and accommodation climate were exceptional. I highly recommend to stay here when visiting Matsumoto.
Thisis an excellent hotel, with tons of free amenities, and only 5 minutes walking from the train station. The castle (probably your main reason to stay in Matsumoto) is about 10 minutes walking. Loved it here!
The room, view, bed, breakfast, and the service of the hotel staff are all excellent! A few minutes walk to the Matsumoto castle and a 5-10 min walk to downtown (near Matsumoto station). Very convenient.
less than 3 min walk to station and within 10 mins walk to Matsumoto castle, and Nakamichi street. plenty of eateries nearby. breakfast was great with western and Japanese options.
A lovely hotel, conventiently located close to the train station. The room and facilities were exceptional, as was the breakfast - one of the best ones we had in Japan!
The hotel is located close to the castle and a 12 minutes walk from Matsumoto station. The staff was friendly. Beds were comfortable but the pillows are way too high
