Rooms were very clean and cleaned every day, fridges and a large kitchen are available for use, there are bikes for rent to explore the nearby beaches, the location is walking distance to the bars in town yet the hostel at night quiet. This being said it is not necessarily a party hostel if you are looking for one. Nonetheless they organize evening events together as well and if you want to party Puerto Viejo offers plenty of options The staff are super friendly and helpful All in all a great stay and easy to meet great people when traveling solo - would definitely go back to Kalunai when back in Puerto Viejo

Rihanny at the front desk is a total star. Calm, pleasant, warm and helpful she made our stay exceptional. The hostel was a joy, wonderful grounds with a resident sloth (Raoul), a number of agouti and most wonderful...the red straberry dart frogs. There are flowers at every corner and the trees and lush vegetation add ambiance and privacy. They have a good system for food storage in the shared kitchen and a nice little pool area.

The family vibes of this hostel made it my favorite hostel in Puerto Viejo. On the right night the hosts will teach you how to salsa dance. Hosts go above and beyond to help with any request and accomodate their guests. Overall decor is rustic with very unique open bungalow feel. Bunk rooms have high ceilings with unique triple bunk bed setup. Very cool place, location is perfect, hosts are officially my family.
