Located in Chennai, 1.7 km from Marina Beach, Broad Lands provides accommodation with free bikes, free private parking, a garden and a shared lounge. This 2-star hostel offers a shared kitchen, room service and free WiFi. The hostel features city views, a terrace and a 24-hour front desk.

Broadlands is an institution. It has been around for decades, and is still going strong. I have stayed here twice before some 25 and 30 years ago. Back in the days we heard about this place as soon as we arrived in India and met other travellers who had been there. I have NO IDEA how it could possibly 'fall' out of the latest edition of Lonely Planet. It is a backpacker and seasoned budget travellers place though and far from luxury, but it's friendly and welcoming. Modern day hostels can wait until another city. The exterior is showing its age, but hay, 2 years with covid hasn't done anybody a favour! Travellers have started trickling in, and hopefully it will be funds to freshen up the iconic baby blue and white paint soon. Rooms are kept fine though, and have good led lights. And the WiFi is SUPERB. Best WiFi I have had during my 6 months in India. Finally I could book flight tickets and catch up online. ...and yes, they still have the chai boys that bring you tea or coffee in flasks and breakfast in the morning.

Looking for a hostel?

Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.

The staff were really well-behaved and cooperative. Room service and fresh amenities including towels were offered every day. Comfy double bed and a nice couch made the room quite cozy. They serve tea in the rooms which was also really good. Pleasant stay in a safe neighborhood overall.

We had such an amazing stay at Broad Lands. We felt welcomed as soon as we arrived and the staff we happy to help with any questions we had. The chill space is so serene and the option to head to the roof top is perfect for sunset. The property is absolutely beautiful! Light, airy, beautifully restored, they’ve kept the charm of the old 50s building perfectly. It feels like a safe and cosy homestay. The room was cool comfy and clean. Would absolutely recommend for anyone staying in Chennai. Great location too.
