ClinkNOORD Hostel

Amsterdam Noord, Amsterdam

ClinkNOORD is situated in the culturally vibrant Amsterdam Noord area, just across the IJ River and about 10 minutes from the back of Amsterdam Centraal Station. The short ferry ride is free and runs 24/7. ClinkNOORD Hostel offers dormitory accommodation, private rooms, free Wi-Fi and a laid-back atmosphere. The location, a couple of minutes from the 24 hour, really frequent ferry to Centraal Station, but in a quiet area, is ideal. Everything you might need is in Centraal or just over the road from it. It's clean, spacious and well run. The breakfast is decent and convenient. It was perfect for me for an 18 hour layover.

The Flying Pig Uptown

Oud Zuid, Amsterdam

This backpackers hostel is located directly next to famous Vondelpark, just an 8-minute walk from Leidseplein. The Flying Pig Uptown features a 24-hour front desk and a bar.

Most of the dormitory rooms come with bunk beds and shared shower and toilet facilities. Some rooms have an en suite bathroom. The toilets and showers were all in individual rooms, so there was a lot of privacy and didnt feel too much like a shared communal bath.

Stayokay Amsterdam Oost

Zeeburg, Amsterdam

This design hostel Stayokay Amsterdam Oost is 3 km away from the city centre. It shares its building with a cinema and theater and is situated in a former school in the Zeeburg district. You have easy access to Dam Square which is 3.6 km away. Free WiFi is available throughout the whole building. We booked a private room for 2 persons and it didn’t feel like a hostel at all. It was comfortable, clean, warm (!) and had all the basics. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Liked how the luggage storage is organised. Location is really good - not touristic, but at the same time not too far from the center. There are supermarkets in the neighborhood, tram and bus stops. Also we liked the bike rental from hostel - at first it might seem pricy as compared to other rentals, but here you get a really good bike in great condition with 7 gears and hand brakes. So, highly recommended!

Hostels. What are they?

Way more than just a cheap place to sleep, hostels are a social way to travel and meet like-minded people. Common areas like shared kitchens or games rooms are great ways to swap tips, tricks and travel stories with backpackers from all over the world.

Hostels have come a long, long way since the first youth hostel opened in 1912. From budget 'crash-pads' to five-star 'poshtels', today, hostels are for everybody, so whether you'd prefer a bed in a shared dorm or your own private room, you'll find most hostels are cheaper than a local hotel and far more fun.
