This is a great and friendly town, which is very crowded all year around with either students or tourists. It is very clean and a joy to walk around. Worth visiting the town centre on foot and just enjoying the small shops and boutiques as well as the ancient college buildings.
St Andrews is a small town, especially the tourist part and so it shouldn't take more than 2 hours to walk around the entire town and see all its sights. However, give it a day to actually go into all the key tourist attractions. Then just spend time drinking in the ambience of the town.
Its worth the time to explore many of St Andrews back alleys and small lanes and if you got the time, take Lade Braes Walk down to the Botanic Gardens along Kinness Burn (probably 30 minutes from start of walk).
Parking is pretty limited in the town, so best to park in your lodgings and walk in or get a bus (very regular due to student community). Most of the town is at 20 MPH if you do drive and has speed bumps everywhere. Many of the side roads are narrow and if you must park in town, most of the roads have Parking Meters.
Nice beaches near the golf course (West Sands) and below the cliffs (East Sands) although the water is quite cold most of the year around.

This should be on every golfers bucket list.
This should be on every golfers bucket list. You really get into the feel of what links golf is. It's also a University town so lots of students abound but great pubs and restaurants and shopping make for lots to see and do.
Make sure to visit the cathedral ruins (stone from which built the town) and the nearby town of Anstruther for great fish and chips at "The Wee Chippy".

We came up to look at the university.
We came up to look at the university. Arrived later in the afternoon and stayed two nights. We don’t play golf, but walked all around the town giving it a thorough overview, and even had a dip at West Sands. It’s bracing!!! 😳Everyone we met was delightful - engaging and smiling. It felt like we’d stumbled across Brigadoon! An antidote to the troubles we all seem to face on the daily news, the air is clean and fresh, the history palpable.it is a genuine town that embraces its visitors and makes them feel very welcome.

In addition to picture perfect St Andrews, steeped in history and many many happy uni memories, there are lots of pretty towns and villages along the East Neuk coast to explore. We took a boat to Bass Rock on our journey to the Offgrid Hideaway at Cambo, stopping off in North Berwick and squeezing in a walk up The Law to take in spectacular views of Fife. I’d recommend having a bite to eat at The Ship Inn at Elie and the Giddy Gannet in St Monan’s - they have divine cinnamon buns and the best coffee and ambience around, plus sumptuous smoked salmon and bacon sarnies all prepared with friendly professional service. Loved the coastal walk from Anstruther to Cambo Sands. Bought some great handmade oilskin bags and a bespoke hat from the maker at Fabrik in Crail, and discovered a gorgeous bracelet and drawing, both from The Beehive. Lovely walks around Cambo gardens including the incredible walled garden. And no midges!

Any golfer should come play the Old Course at least once,...
Any golfer should come play the Old Course at least once, and there are 6 more courses to play at St Andrews Links. I was blessed with great weather in August. Caddies are amazing on the Old Course, I wouldn't have known some of the lines to play without guidance.
The location was very close to the main centre of St Andrews. The apartment was comfortable, clean and well furnished with quality accessories throughout. Basics were also supplied such as toiletries and kitchen essentials. The upstairs lounge is spacious with a balcony. Bedrooms are small but adequate and both have ensuite. The kitchen is well equipped and all crockery etc appeared new. We also spent time at the Spa at the Old Course Hotel which we would recommend. Parking nearby to the apartment is very convenient and not expensive.
The hotel was only a 5 minute walk to The Old Course, which was the sole purpose of my visit. It was very accessible to everything in town, which I enjoyed walking around knowing I did not have to drive to get to. The bar and restaurant being at the bottom of the stairs was awesome! Finished my round of golf and was able to have a pint closer to my room than the SALT clubhouse! Good food and the breakfast was great!
Great location and hotel. Just for us personally the quilts/duvets were so heavy and rooms so warm we did not sleep even with the window open. That being said for Oct in Scotland the weather can be super cold so the appreciation for keeping visitor warm was appreciated. Would actually stay there again though hands down due to location, staff and overall facilities.
The owner John is a very friendly and helpful host. He has put a number of thoughtful touches into the property to make it very comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable to stay. The bed was comfortable and the property clean and well maintained.
The location is within an easy walking distance of all St. Andrews offers. Quiet place to stay in a very pleasant setting.
Everything was absolutely perfect! Felt like a home away from home. The most warm & friendly hosts; delicious full-Scottish breakfast each morning; very comfortable rooms; incredible views over looking St. Andrews; overall everything was outstanding! Many thanks to our wonderful hosts for the delicious jar of homemade honey.
the location of the property is amazing! great views of the sea and golf courses. my favourite hotel in Scotland! the rooms are incredible. big clean and comfortable, and the restraints are first class! can’t wait to stay again! the staff also can’t do enough. so helpful and polite. it’s the best place in Scotland.
Everything about this property is perfect!!!! First of all it's beautiful!!! The location is perfect, the house is so spacious, it has everything you need and is immaculate. We will try to stay here every visit to see our daughter at St. Andrews. It's absolutely the best!!
Loved my relaxing stay and was upgraded from a single to a cosy double room.
It was very quiet at the back of the hotel, with a view over the gardens to the sea.
Everything was close by, with the High Street only being a five minute walk from the hotel.
Great hotel in city centre. Check in easy and lived the extra touched with French milk and complimentary soft drinks in fridge. Also host left out fresh fruit and croissants for people who were in the go in the morning. Would stay there again lovely hotel
Everything.
Location was the best, hosts even better.

Just fabulous... I would rather stay here again than old course hotel.
A very excellent stay from the very comfortable rooms, the staff and the location. could not have asked for better. The food was also very good and comparably priced with surrounding locations. would definitely recommend the Hotel Du Vin,
Quaint little Location, just out side St. Andrews. Great price. for a quality place.
Breakfast was excellent, Mattress was very comfy.
The rooms were recently redone.
Pam was a great host, very friendly and helpful. makes great breakfast too. she recommended we go to the New Inn which probably had the best food we had in St. Andrews
The hotel was beautiful, staff so brilliant, breakfast was amazing, room was beautiful and bed amazingly comfortable. Excellent location. Would highly recommend.
