Where modern heritage meets a warm Derbyshire welcome. Oakhill is a beautiful Grade 2 Listed (Georgian style) house built by the Arkwright family in the mid 19th century, as a private family dwelling....

Located in a beautiful area of the Derbyshire countryside, on the edge of the Peak District; Cromford is a beautiful little village.
The village has a rich history and lots of character. Steeped in industrial heritage, it's famously known as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, thanks to Sir Richard Arkwright's pioneering cotton mill.
Today, visitors can explore the well-preserved mill complex, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offering insight into the area's industrial past.
Cromford Canal is pleasant attraction and there are many stunning countryside walks, including the nearby Cromford Moor and High Peak Trail. The village itself is dotted with lovely stone cottages, inviting pubs, and independent shops
Matlock Bath, a seaside town in the heart of country, is just a short 10 minute walk and offers arcades, fish and chip shops, ice creams, pubs and entertainment.

I love small little villages.
I love small little villages. Went to parkys cafe and had some lovely homemade vegan soup with a good pot of tea ....hate just a cup soo was over the moon.
Also the bell Inn which I really liked 2 log fires , lovely warm feel to the place.
Unfortunately the book store has now stopped dogs going in which I get but it's a shame as I would of liked to have a good look around plus believe they do some lovely vegan /veggie food.
The walks are brill around that way short drive or within walking distance....overall a great place to kick your boots off after a good old walk

If you are interested in industrial history Cromford has a lot to offer: we really enjoyed our visit to Cromford Mill and I would have loved to spend a little more time exploring the other mill that Richard Arkwright built nearby. We didn't have time to visit the church where he is buried either. Another time maybe.

Not a wholly unpleasant stay, but various upgrades and more attention to details would not go amiss.
Liked · The room was pleasant enough, and the shower (over the bath) truly was a power shower.
Disliked · This hotel is situated on a pretty busy main road, so, if you have a room allocated at the front of the hotel, noise ingress from lorries is noticeable.
The room and bathroom were not 'dirty dirty' but I felt both would benefit from a deep clean, as there were areas of both rooms that had clearly been missed by Housekeeping.
A serious upgrade is required for the internet connection, which was intermittent/not working and slow all evening.
Considering this is a 3 star AA hotel, I was surprised that the tv entertainment choice was so poor - a limited amount of freeview channels, and no Netflix or Amazon Prime on offer.

We visited Cromford Mill, it was Sunday and there was an artisan market and also a car and bike show in the grounds. The canal wharf has a nice cafe with outdoor seating and good menu with selection of sandwiches panini’s and jacket potatoes. There is a walk along the canal.
You can walk to Matlock Bath from Cromford it took us 17minutes to walk there it’s a bit of a noisy road with bikes and lorries going by.
We visited the Great British Car Journey museum at Amblegate not far away which was a trip down memory lane looking at cars we and our family used to own.
Had nice food at a reasonable price at the Boat Inn Cromford
Great location, you need your own transport but Matlock, Bakewell and Buxton are all within easy reach and its a lovely drive through the countryside to visit any of them.
The cottage itself is comfortable and cosy and had everything we needed, the view from the back patio is fantastic we sat in the sun playing cards and enjoying it and a couple of beers all afternoon.
I would highly recommend if you’re looking to relax and take in the beauty of the Peak District.
Gorgeous little cottage, perfect for a few nights away. Great location in Cromford (highly recommended the Greyhound pub), and the cottage was beautifully cared for and clean. Lovely little touches like leaving wine, snacks and milk for us. We had a minor issue with the shower and the owners responded immediately to sort it out. Overall a really relaxing place to be, with great walking nearby. We really enjoyed our stay here and will be back.
Lovely renovated cottage. Very well stocked kitchen with good quality appliances, crockery and cutlery. Good WiFi. Good heating. Comfortable beds. The over bath shower has very good pressure but it is a bit low. The owner was very helpful. I would highly recommend this cottage. Steeped in history In a very interesting part of Derbyshire
Barn Owl cottage is beautiful. It had been decorated for Christmas which we loved and it had been heated up so it was really cosy. The location is excellent and is just a short walk into the village of Cromford. The views are stunning and we loved being on a farm. We were able to take our dog who loved it too!
The location, the property, very snug, nice shower room, everything you need for your stay,it's compact, comfy, pubs, cafes, restaurant very close by,Matlock Bath is close by, nice walking from this location. The host Deborah comes across as a very pleasant lady. And it's Dog friendly, what more could you want.
Lovely view over mill pond with ducklings, heron and swifts hunting for insects and occasionally drinking from the pond.
Easy access to public transport. Very good local pub - The Boat Inn - very friendly.
Absolutely beautiful picture postcard cottage feel. Small but perfectly formed. Found accommodation to be exceptionally cosy and set in lovely surroundings with blossom tree in the garden.
