Shanklin and Sandown are beautiful beaches but both towns are dying. Shops empty etc. Parking expensive and a nightmare to find which took a lot of the enjoyment out of the trip. Parking charged 24 hours 7 days a week.

The hotel is located in old Shanklin which is delightful.
The hotel is located in old Shanklin which is delightful. The main part of Shanklin is run down and not appealing. Despite this it has an excellent beach and would be a good place for a beach holiday with the right weather.

The beachfront and beach were lovely, accessible from the clifftop area via a lift suitable for everyone. Lots of places to sit and eat and drink. The far end of the beach past the Fisherman's cottage pub was dog friendly with a wide flat sandy area. Shanklin chine was lovely to walk through and explore as was the old village full of charming old shops and buildings. Shanklin town centre was within a short walk with a mix of shops some areas did look a little tired but we found virtually all places were dog friendly. The station was only a short walk from our hotel with a regular reliable service to Ryde. Using the Trainline app enabled us to get flexible day returns at reduced costs and we could hop on and off along the journey. Overall a very pleasant and well positioned place to stay, the hotel and staff were wonderful very welcoming and accommodating who made as much fuss of our dog as us.

Shanklin is a quaint place. Nice beach and quite long.
Shanklin is a quaint place. Nice beach and quite long. Shops could probably do with an upgrade but had a nice couple of pubs and excellent Italian restaurant, plus Indian and Chinese. High Street has a few coffee shops but also some empty shops like most places these days. You can get a lift down to the beach area or walk but it has quite a hill on the way up. Good walk to Sandown along the promenade. Local roads need a bit of work done to them but main roads ok. Lovely countryside and views of the sea. Couple of nice pub/restaurants in the Esplanade worth visiting.

Everything visitor wise in Shanklin is based around the old...
Everything visitor wise in Shanklin is based around the old village which is on a steep hill, which can be a challenge to the less sprightly members of society. We ate at some good restaurants such as Pendleton's, Pavarotti's, Kurga Thai & The Village Inn. There are others that are good as well. It is essential to book in advance at the restaurants as they are smallish and very busy.
David and Rosemary are truly amazing hosts. A very warm and friendly welcome from both with tea and biscuits on arrival. Spotless, comfortable room and beautifully cooked breakfast with great choice including local produce. Just a few minutes walk from Shanklin with good restaurants, pubs etc. We had to park around the corner on occasion as only four spaces for parking on the property, however parking is not restricted on the road so this was not a problem.
An extremely comfortable bed and breakfast house set in an amazing garden with lots of seating areas to enjoy the flowers and the sun. Several small lounges in addition to the breakfast room. Comfortable, clean bedrooms, Excellent choice of breakfast items which were cooked to order. Friendly and efficient hosts and staff. Located in Shanklin Old Village so very easy to access the beach and coastal path, pubs, cafes, shops and the regular bus services.
Lovely hotel on the cliff top with uninterrupted views over the sea.
Ample parking, delightful reception staff, clean, warm and tidy bedroom with ensuite bath room with shower over bath.
Delicious and plentiful breakfast with ample choice to suit all tastes.
Easy walk into the old village in less than 10 minutes.
We did not stay as long as intended but will definitely return for another stay and would recommend to friends and family.
A really wonderful B&B in a quiet part of Shanklin close to the beach and within walking distance to the main parts of the town. Comfortable bed and room, including the ensuite bathroom which was wonderful. I had a garden view room so it was very quiet, and I enjoyed looking out at the plants and so on. Very friendly hosts who offered tips for getting around the IOW via bus and who cooked an amazing breakfast!
This really is a little Treasure, amazing apartment with so many lovely thoughtful touches, including bottle of wine on arrival, own private balcony overlooking tropical gardens, felt very welcomed and very at home, fabulous location 5 minutes from beach and 2 minute walk to Shanklin Old Village inn would definitely stay again highly recommend😊😊😊
Very friendly staff in an excellent period house, in a superb location in the middle of Shanklin Old Village. Car Parking although some spaces were tight if others were taken nearby. High quality service and fresh very good quality breakfasts served on hot plates. Overnight oats were simply awesome. An excellent shower and a room with sea views.
The apartment was exceptional. It was everything advertised and more. It was comfortable, clean and warm. The wifi was very good, it never let us down even when we had 4 devices connected. The location is just a few minutes walk from Shanklin old village and with a bonus of a sea view.
Excellent location, in a very pleasant neighbourhood and only a few minutes walk from both Shanklin town centre/Old Village and the beach. Excellent cooked breakfast with plenty of choice. Lovely garden and grounds outside with tables to take a drink outside to in the evenings.
Great location on bus route , easy walk into the Old Village or downhill to the beachfront , or short walk to cliff lift. Outdoor pool , heated but cool, room good , clean , quiet fir a hotel. Owner and staff excellent and welcoming
The views from The Brunswick were exactly what I needed for my mental health mini-break. The easy walk to the beach or to the old village also make this a great choice. The staff were lovely and accommodating.
The host was friendly and we were welcomed with a lovely cream tea which was a nice touch. Nice view of the sea from the hotel outside dining area. Enough parking for about 10 cars. Enjoyed the breakfast.
We went to the festival and believe me this far outweighed the other option of camping at the site. We had lovely showers daily and slept like babies. We even went in the refreshing sea of Shanklin bay!
Nice place near Shanklin waterfront. Easy road links to the rest of the island. Both hosts were friendly and helpful. Would recommend and stay here again when I return to IOW.
where to begin:
This Hotel was a disaster and should NEVER been placed on your web site it was ran by people who hadn't a clue and an absolute disgrace.....
Amazing location overlooking Shanklin, easy walk to old village and down to the beach. Great breakfast, lovely proprietors - made me feel really at home.
The location was perfect. Shanklin beach is on your doorstep. The breakfast was tasty and the hosts were lovely. Very friendly, kind and helpful people.
Location not too far from bus stop & the beach. Hotel is decent, clean & lots of space to sit & relax both inside & outside. Staff is nice & courteous.
