The Valentine - Townhouse Hotel is located in Edinburgh city centre at the South-West corner of the historic Old Town. Edinburgh Castle and other top attractions are within a 15-minute walk. Free WiFi is available in all rooms. Built in 1813, the historic property offers accommodation situated over 4 floors accessed by stairs only. It is not a modern 'glass and steel structure', but a traditional stone built property. Rooms feature a digital TV, hairdryer, shower-room, heating, and street views over our gardens. Irons, scales and umbrellas are available upon request. The Valentine is situated within walking distance of all city centre attractions, including restaurants, shops, pubs, and cinemas. Edinburgh International Conference Centre is just a 10-minute walk away. This room-only property has no reception or meal options, but staff are present during each day to service the rooms, there are many breakfast options nearby. Most guests use a simple coded self-entry process for arrivals, especially helpful for late evening flights, with backup staff available of course by phone or in person in case of emergency The Valentine is located in the city centre of Edinburgh. We strive to provide our guests with a great experience, allowing them to explore the rich history of the city, while simultaneously providing them with comfort and cleanliness within a piece of Edinburgh's history. In 1813, a Georgian town house had no running water, but all rooms are now of course ensuite or with private bathrooms. These facilities are generally sufficient rather than ample, our guests choose this property to be immersed in the historic culture of the city rather than for room size and sterile building design. We can't wait to welcome you and provide your ideal base for your Edinburgh stay!

Very clean and cosy. We had a wonderful view from our window, some squirrels were playing every morning in the back yard.

Location was great if you wanted something slightly out of city centre. Plenty of bars and cafes nearby for quick breakfasts or sit-down meals. We especially loved Bennets Bar for a beer/whisky and The Wildcat for a cocktail or two! Room was...

The Valentine - City Centre Rooms is situated on all four floors of an 1813 Georgian Town House, a significant building in Edinburgh's history being a prototype of the Edinburgh 'three-door flats' layout later used throughout the city. Such a historic building can have no lift of course, but if you book a room on one of the upper floors up the wide original stair case, then we will of course assist with luggage if you would like. The building is 'B' listed, due to it's history, and the original worn stone stairs are still used between the lower and upper 'halves' of the property! Tollcross? A long time ago, cities raised part of their finance by charging a toll or tax to enter the city,One of the tolls was in the area now known as Tollcross centred on the junction where the famous clock now stands. Originally a pendulum clock, in 1926 it became spring driven and was wound once a week by the makers. Gilmore 'Street' was constructed in 1798 through property owned by Samuel Gilmore who owned a ropemaking factory on the north side of Gilmore Place, as it became known. Older maps show the spelling as 'Gilmour', which is probably the original authentic spelling.
The Wilkinson family has been running this property for 20 years, initially Vicky and Rob, and now their son Ross. Being a local family we can tell you all about Edinburgh's colourful history, as well as where to get the best Scottish food and local live music. The guest house is situated in the middle of Sean Connery territory, we've met Sean and old schoolmates of his and we can tell you all about his local roots - we are surrounded by his birthplace, schools, early employment and the theatre where he got his break!
Perhaps the best location within any town or city is being just far enough from the noise of the busiest traffic and nightlife, but still close enough that all the main attractions are within easy walking distance. This is what the location of The Valentine - City Centre Rooms offers; situated at the South-West of the historic Old Town, in the Tollcross area of the city, the 200 year old building is just metres from the King's Theatre, close to the Meadows and a short walk from Lothian Road and Princes Street. Well located for the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, it is a 10 minute walk to the Grassmarket in the shadow of Edinburgh castle and the buildings of the famous Royal Mile. Frequent local buses from right at our door will take you to all other parts of the city such as those with the Royal Yacht Britannia and the Botanic Gardens.
